Planets,Stars and Doomdayers

Would you not agree that this time around the doomsday prophets are conspicuous by their absence?

Where are the warnings about the imminent end of the world no doubt to occur this coming Thursday June 21st?

- Firstly, as we all know, this Thursday a total solar eclipse (a 'swallowing of the Sun') will take place over parts of Southern Africa.

- Additionally, the Red Planet (Mars, associated with War) will be extremely close to planet Earth - the closest it has been in THIRTEEN years.

- As if that were not enough, June 21st is also the solstice day (mid-summer / mid-winter point) for our home planet in its journey around the Sun.

- And for the astronomy buffs, here's another even rarer angle: the position of the maximum total eclipse on the Earth on Thursday occurs very close to the sub-zenithal point of Mars. In other words, Earth will be very nearly in the Mars-to-Sun line at the time, and since there will be a total eclipse occurring, it means the Moon is nearly in that line also! (but it's not exact, since Mars will be past opposition).

Now if THAT collection of celestial events is not enough to guarantee certain calamity, nothing is! Where are the knowledgeable and wise soothsayers, astrologers and other pseudoscientists when we need them??

Tom, I'm a conservative, evangelical Christian and believe the prophecies of Scripture concerning end times events, but I'm not superstitious. All those things you listed mean nothing to me. I think that June 21st will come and go like any other day.

I thought Tom was saying all that "tongue in cheek" I certainly was! Vicki

Totally agree with Skip Walton. Eagle

I was listening to the BBC interviewing an astrophysicist, who is also a UFOlogist....wish I could remember the man's name....anyway, he was saying that this is traditionally the time when UFO sightings spike, corresponding to planetary alignments noted, and especially every 12 years when Mars is at its closest to our orbit.

So, all of you out there in the dark, on your farms, turn off your security lights and start watching!!! (Perhaps we could all put on our tin-foil helmets too, just to be safe ;-)!!)

When I was a child, I remember that "someone" had come up with a prophecy that "blood would be running down the streets of Green Bay,WI". Now, I have no idea what the heck that was about...to this day. I DO know that my faith in prophecy went down the drain(LOL) when it didn't happen!....Maybe a meat packing company would have plugged drainage....!

I've got close to a shelf full of books written by prophets ranging from the economic to the religious predicting doom and disaster. To the man they've all been WRONG in their predictions, either in the disaster happening at all or the degree of severity if it did happen. I no longer pay any attention to such folks.

At one and the same time, however, I've seen disaster and crises come can go repeatedly, nearly EVERY DAY, to someone, somewhere on this planet. Most were far away, sometimes they were quite near. On rare occasions they happened to me or mine.

After all this time I've come to this conclusion:

BECOME GENERALLY PREPARED AND STAY THAT WAY.

The prophets of doom and disaster have a terrible, terrible record of accuracy (nearly zero in fact) but crises and disasters still manage to happen every day all over the planet. Many times they happen with little or no warning. When such occur you will either be ready or you won't. To think that disaster can never come to you personally makes you a fool. To think that a crisis or disaster will give you sufficiently advance notice to get ready before it hits makes you nearly as big a fool.

Never mind the doomsayers, just get ready, STAY READY, and get on with living a long and fulfilled life. In the course of a long life when the suprise disaster catches you you'll suffer a lot less than those who weren't prepared.

Hear! Hear! Live Oak could not agree more with you. always be prepared. Even if its just incase of a car accident.

Skip: when I saw this,I was thinking more about all the past y2k'ers out there then I was the Christians. These events of today would have fitted in perfect with all the stuff that people wrote and talked about for almost a yr or more before Jan. 1st 2000.
