2002 Relaay Champs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

Some may wondering where the missing "a" in Classic floated off to (see previous subject). But now they will know. And doesn't Relaay take on a whole new flavor, something almost Finnish? ~\^ !!!

Anyway, it looks as if not only will Vermont get its first "A" meet next year, but that it will also get its first national championship (we're talking Orienteering here, and not ski-O). The US Relay Champs, in fact. It's an all but done deal. Late September is the rumored timeframe, which is about the time when Vermont likes to start getting its woods ready for leaf-peeping.

Interesting news. Preparing for a relay champs in September will be a challenge for OKers in the "homeland." The local forests are not a place you want to go until about October. So, OK will have to arrange some sort of training camp (probably a month or so before the relay champs).

Has the specific location in Vermont been decided?

The Relaay will be set in the (private) yard around Mike and Vivien Fritz's home. Just imagine the home course of Spike and NN~^\, only with more space, more trees, more big black dawgs, and less grass.

You can see some of the Green Mountain O' Club's maps on their web page:
