Redirect the URL of this site?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Telling other Newcastle fans how to get to this site is a bit tricky as the URL to the password entry page is too long.

Why don't we buy a domain name and redirect it here (cost about £30) Or redirect www.fergs.net or www.ntlsports.com or some other domain name that we might own to this site. That way we could tell people verbally about this BBS.

As a way to remember ITK (rather than trying to rename the BBS) you can have the dailytoon.co.uk domain name - I'd just need to remember the passwords to change the redirection.

Answers on a Postcard to the usual address.

www.itknufcbbs.com or something? or just www.nufcbbs.com and the name could be something with ITK, dont remember what the final name was.

Give me a couple of months so I can get my company on track then I can host this BBS not doubt.

Most of Ken's spare time was spent keeping the dailytoon updated - it was his site really, I just put together a few asp pages to make it easy for him to enter his prose (a bit like what Premium TV do for nufc.co.uk but Ken was about 1000 times better at keeping it updated than the clubs PR dept - should they have one).

Newcastle United don't update the "co.uk" site themselves Scratchy. They feed information to someone in NTL/Premium TV, or whatever, who know absolutely nothing about NUFC, and they then update the site - eventually.

This was one of the issues I touched on with David Stonehouse last October, and I don't believe anything has changed. NTL can develop/maintain the site and even host it; however, NUFC must have the capability to update the site instantly, and several times a day, by people who know what the hell they are talking about. Imho, this necessitates having someone available to do that at SJP.

Seems NUFC and NTL/PremTV are taking opposing views on this one. As far as the latter are concerned they've given NUFC all they need to keep the site up and running and up to date - seems to work ok for Boro and Villa.....

.... then perhaps the situation has changed since I spoke to Stonehouse about this in October. At that time NTL were doing all text updates and there was no sign of that situation changing.

http://uk2.net

It costs pennies a month to have a redirect.

i've started the process of doing this, I now own www.nufcbbs.com and I'll sort the redirection to here tomorrow

Congratulations on becoming a web-site parent, macbeth.

Another good job in the works mate - well done.

www.nufc.co.uk, would have been a lot cheaper to own.
