BTW, butty is pronounced as a northern Brit would say it, a dull vowel, duller than the vowel sound in "butt." And not like "buddy," either! Think Full Monty.

One summer evening, as we were all kids with nothing to do and ma and pa were watching the news with Cronkite or someone, we decided that a fun thing to do was smear jelly all over the face of the kid from down the street and then get him to run back and forth through the cloud of gnats in the backyard.

ma and pa didn't think it was funny, but we thoroughly enjoyed it!
