a Kegsy prophecy

we'll be roughly the same as last season, would depend on injuries.

We'd have swapped O'Brien for Goma which would be a downward step, Quinn for Domi, similarly. Griffin should take over from Barton which is a plus.

In midfield we're completely lost. Speed/Lee/Solano/Bassedas scares no one, except us.

Up front we're weakened as we have lost Gallacher and Cordone. Luckily Lua Lua will be a year closer to being a world class player.

Mid table mediocrity only saved by the hopelessness that is Leicester/Derby/Everton/Bolton/Southampton/Sunderland

i'm starting to warm to DeB's optimism and you pop up and make me realise that i'll always be a pessimist like you Mac mate. We are not very good.

I'd rather have an 'up for it' O'Brien than a disaffected Goma, and Domi didn't have one decent game last Season. A COMPLETELY fit Dyer and Shearer will lift us higher than 12th, but only just.

Speed/Lee/Solano/Bassedas scare no-one because of last season and the respective amount of games they played consecutively in the same position. Did Bassedasever get to build up a relationship with Solano?
Did Speed and Bassedas ever play in a rigid central partnership for a number of games?
Was Dyer available to come into this midfield?
Did any of these players ever play a few games with a left midfielder as an outlet therefore easing the amount of work they had to do to creat something out of nothing down the middle of opposition defences?
No to all of the above. Idealistically you have a system to start with and then the personnel come in and slot into it. We buggered around with the system due to injuries and tactical fuck ups, to such an extent that I believe some of these players were wondering what to do next sometimes. Individually these players are a lot better than a lot of the cloggers in the Premiership, sure they have peers from some of the very good teams but these lot are not as bad as people made out.

Speed and Bassedas get the Lions's share of criticism but they were the ones asked to perform in different positions every week.

Rob Lee would get praised every time he played, which wasn't that often, but he slots in front of the back four every time he plays so he knows what he has to do.

I just think if we can start off on the right track and that includes sorting out the absolute shambles that is where to play Dyer when Solano is in the team, we can get some sort of settled midfield. If Speed is injured, Lee or Acuna comes in. If Bassedas is injured then Lee or Acuna come in. Simple as that.

There has to be a hierarchy in our midfield. This will induce competitiveness for a place.

Teams like Sunderland have shown that average players can be moulded to form an effective midfield unit. In most teams in the Premiership there are combinations.

Out siders would look at our midfield and think, yes Speed, Lee, Acuna and Bassedas always played but did they always play in the same position? Did they bollocks.
