TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) -- Three moderate earthquakes shook southern Taiwan Tuesday, seismologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The tremors, of magnitudes of 5.3, 5.2 and 4.4, struck within an hour and were all centered in Taitung County, about 180 miles south of Taipei, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
The strongest was felt in Taipei, swaying curtains and other hanging objects.
Earthquakes are common in Taiwan, but most are small.
There have been thousands of quakes here since the 7.6-magnitude tremor in September 1999 that killed about 2,400 people.
