Spiritual thought

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I thought this applied to some of our discussions.

" Spiritual practice heals us, bringing down light to the regions of our darkness. We need more than brilliant analysis; we need a miracle. The human mind can’t give us that, but the human mind isn’t all we’ve got. The human mind contains a spark of divinity, and that divinity illumines us. The illumined mind has transcended worldly illusion. It’s so drawn to the light that it merges with the light. And in that merger lies the hope for mankind. "

Thats so cool Diane," The human mind contains a spark of divinity." We have all glimped it, have felt it. The moments of merging with the light! Tren

Satan can transform himself into an angel of light.

I do believe that our recognition of that spark is our hope for the future. But will enough recognize it to make a difference? That's my concern. This book I've been reading theorizes that when a collective realization of this connection happens is when this world will be transformed. I thought it was very interesting.

I just wanted to note that I appreciate the concern from "WARNING". But and there's always a but, realize that we are all adults here that may not have the same beliefs as you. If you have something to contribute please do so as an adult with your real name and join the discussion. Otherwise how can you be taken seriously?

I think you worded that perfectly, Denise!

What book is that that you're reading, Denise? Sounds interesting!

I agree with Denise and Emama. Mr. or Mrs. or Miss WARNING, if you can't use your real name, then why bother trying to start something. It won't work here anyway. It's childess and immature to post like that, what are you embarrassed about if you have to hide who you are. I am a Christian and I don't hide, and they love me here for me, and I love them for who they are. I think the origional posting of Spiritual Practice was beautiful, and can be applied to any person, regardless of their belief. Thanks Diane.

Hey "WARNING",

Consider this your first and last warning, smart-ass. Things are kinda hectic in my life right now so I'm really not in the mood for any shit from you or any other trolls right now.

BTW, you may think you're cute by posting a fake email address but as the administrator of this forum, I see your real IP address. And it just so happens that I did a reverse DNS on your IP addy so I know from where you're REALLY coming from.

If you post any more crap like the above again I'll be more than happy to contact your Internet provider...

Do I make myself clear?

Sorry for the profanity, guys. Especially to you, diane, on a thread like this one concerning spirituality.

I'll try to reign in my temper in the future. :-(

Having a bad hair day Jim??? :>)

more food for thought:

It is not a sign of good health to be well adjusted to a sick society.

Joy, it is called Living Magically by Gill Edwards. It was suggested reading from a lady psychologist in the UK that I have corresponded with. It's an introduction to the metaphysical way of thinking which is slightly different as far as I can tell from other pagan religions. I have found it to be very interesting so far. I got it used through abebooks.com. It's somewhat hard to find because it was released in the UK in the early 90's. I sort of see it as another way of looking at the same thing we are all seeking but from a more psychological standpoint. That's not how it's described but my interpretation. The first part is explanation and the second part is mostly exercises to practice and try. I've just started the second part, so it may take some time for me to finish it. I did the first meditation and it did reveal what my current view of the world is! INTERESTING!! But Joy you've done so much reading you are probably already well versed in this area. If you've already read it or something similar, let me know what you thought.

Having a bad hair day Jim??? :>)

Yeah, that's it, a bad hair day...

But does that mean that as I lose my hair, I'll have fewer and fewer of these bad hair days? Maybe there's a positive side to baldness after all...

BTW, I liked your quote, diane. Here's one that I came across a few days ago that really floored me when I read it - It really describes where I'm *trying* to be in my life right now:

"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause. The mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one." -Wilhelm Stekel

I'll have to see if I can track that one down, Denise, coz I haven't read it (nor even heard of it). I've heard of the premise however. Still reading The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight, just getting into the "solutions" or "what can we do" part -- I've been wondering if he'll be proposing something similar. I guess maybe I could be called well-read, but I seem to keep coming across mention of interesting books that I HAVEN'T read yet! ;-)

WHOH ! I slipped away for a while, and alot happened!

Diane-Your note to Jim "It's not a sign of good health to be well adjusted to a sick society" that rings true to me!

Jim-I was glad that you were there Jim, like a brother jumping in to help.Whew, this new person does come on strong!

When I read the warning I really felt like a devel with horns and a red sword had come into the room to plunder us of our very own thoughts, inspirations and truths.

Warning- I would like to say to you that the very basis of this forum is a group of people with sometimes very different beliefs who have agreed to accept the differences. We are a group of people that accept that every human must find his/her own way to, or not to God. We are all familiar with the Bible, many amoungh us are Christians. But they do not find it necessary to belittle the non-believers with holding themselves superier as the only holders of the truth!

We are becoming to know each other here, we accept each others different beliefs, we discuss but we do not call anyone a Fool, if we disagree with his beliefs.

Warning- Does not the bible also say that you shall know a man by his fruits!? What kind of fruit was born due by your posting? You bore anger, hurt, and confusion. The funny thing is, all of us would have accepted you if you had come on as a human.

Diane, You said that "the recognition of the spark is our hope for the future" then you quoted " when a colletive realization of this connection happens is when this world will be transformed" Whow, lets hold unto those sparks!

Hoot, if you are out there, I never for a moment thought that it could be you. I have always loved reading your posts. And you are the only thing that I miss from Countryside Forum.

May Love Reign! Tren
