Only two British cities have had two sides reach the last 4 of the European Cup/Champions League.Name those two cities.

Liverpool - Liverpool and Everton? Glasgow - Rangers and Celtic?
-- Anonymous, June 16, 2001
Glasgow yes, not Liverpool, Everton only had two years in the European Cup, lost 1-0 on aggregate to Inter in first round in 63 (Inter won competition), and 1970 lost in second game to Panathaniakos on away goals.Rangers lost 12-4 on aggregate to Eintracht who then lost 7-3 to Real Madrid in the final !!

Glasgow (as above) and Manchester; "Busby Babes" and "Taggart's Tw@ts"??

Could the 2nd possibly be Birmingham?
Villa won it, and I'm wondering whether Wolves may have got ot the European Cup QF's way back in history?

Two points Clarky, Wolverhampton is as close to Birmingham as Sunderland is to Newcastle, and 1/4 finals is last eight, part from the you could have been right. But no neither Manchester nor Birmingham, keep going everyone

and it's not a trick question
-- Anonymous, June 16, 2001
a poser for sure... I'm sure of one thing... it isn't London or Manchester.

Well, looking at this logically - the only British cities apart from Glasgow, London, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Manchester to have two pro teams, at least currently, are:
Bristol
Sheffield
Nottingham
Edinburgh
and DundeeI feel sure that Bristol, Sheffield, and Dundee can be eliminated, leaving Nottingham and Edinburgh. I can't believe Hearts and Hibs have reached the later stages of the European Cup. Notts forest have won it. So, presumably Notts County must have reached the later stages in the dim distant past - therefore Glasgow and Nottingham?

Stoke has got two teams.

Clarky's logic starts best. His knowledge then lets him down !!The two sides involved both lost in semis to Italian sides. The first to Milan who then won the trophy at Wembley. The latter to a team who lost the final in their own home stadium ! The greatest medal winner his nation has ever produced (maybe even the best player in his position ever ?) scored in that final.

(wee joke)

Dundee United did it in the '80s and Dundee did it in the '60s. Celtic obviously, and Lucifer's XI who are also from Glasgow. Do I win a prize?
-- Anonymous, June 16, 2001
Clarky, I'm ashamed of you!!
-- Anonymous, June 16, 2001
I feel suitably humbled and chastised! ;-{)I certainly recall one Dundee side - the ones who play in orange - doing well in Europe way back (I seem to recall them having a big bruising CF called John Clarke, who did to European defences what Wyn Davies did in our UEFA victory run), but not the other one of who I have no recollection whatsoever.

London?
-- Anonymous, June 17, 2001
It's Dundee, big article in the paper up here yesterday to cvelebrate their retutn to Europe (intertoto qualifying !)In amongst the Dundee greats were Ian Ure and Alan Gilzean.

All I can say is Ure's parents must have had a helluva SOH. I guess he's counting his luccky stars he wasn't called Sue. Probably what made him such a hard bugger.
