A passenger jet nearly hit a Heathrow airport worker when it went to land on a runway closed for repair.

The man was checking repair work when he noticed the landing lights of the Boeing 777 in his rear view mirror of the vehicle he was driving.

The man pulled off the runway as the Saudi Airlines jet, which was carrying 250 passengers, closed in on him.

The incident, which is being investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is the second near miss at the west London airport to be reported this week.

Investigation

Details of the miss have only emerged on Friday, although it happened on 21 May.
