Leica flash SF-20 sounds funny?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi,

I just got the SF-20 flash unit and I like it very much, except for the fact that it is using more expensive 123 type of batteries. Anyway, I notice not only does it have high pitch charging sound like a regular flash, but it also emit some sort of "sissing", "tse-tse" type of sound. Is this normal? Or do I get a lemon? I am almost suspecting that there is some poor contact inside the unit.

If you have any experience with SF-20, please let me know whether yours do the same thing. Thanks in advance.

Mine does sound like this, but your pictures will tell you whether ti is working or not. I like the Lithium batteries - if it didn't have them it would be much larger and heavier and would need longer to recharge.

Mine makes the same sounds and works perfectly.

The lithium batteries work very well ... they are quite efficient and last a very long time. I still have the original set in my flash unit after over a year of using it.

Mine also sounds irregular but it works okay. Like its whispering something..........

But really, you don't hear it unless you put it close to your ear.

The 123 type batteries are indeed relatively expensive, but on the positive side, they last a very very long time...
