STAMFORD, Conn. (Dow Jones)--

Xerox Corp. (XRX) will exit the small office/home office business in a bid to return to profitability in the second half and for the full year.

In a press release Thursday, Xerox said the segment posted a pretax loss of $82 million in the first quarter, citing the slowing economy.

Potential equity partners were unwilling to invest in the small-office business, which needed the up front backing to continue developing inkjet printer models.

Over the next six months, Xerox will discontinue its line of personal inkjet and xerographic products sold primarily through retail channels.

They out priced themselves right out of the market due to greed. You buy an 8300 copy machine at office depot for $ 500 then get home with it only to find out that a little powder cartridge is $ 139. and a roller cartridge is $ 149.-- and the machine automatically shuts down at a precise copy interval forcing you to buy the new cartridges. Now the Sharp (Japanese) at $ 529 sells 16 onces of powder in a can for $ 24 and a new roller is $ 59. and the machine doesn't shut down at exactly 4000 clicks. It uses up all the powder. The American way is doomed by greed.
