HI - New paycheck system flunks 1st test at OCCC

Associated Press

Discrepancies were found in about 25 percent of the 550 paychecks issued this week to workers at O'ahu Community Correctional Center, state officials said.

The fact that there was a problem really wasn't unexpected.

The paychecks were the first issued by the state's new automated payroll system, called KRONOS.

The system has been under development for two years, and officials said it may take another two years before it is ready to handle the paychecks of all state workers.

The Department of Public Safety volunteered the correctional center to participate in a test of the system because the prison has one of the most complicated payrolls in state government.

Assistant Warden Francis Sequeira said some guards were shorted as much as $200.

New checks were written by the state to cover the losses.
