Feather Pillows (The making of)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Well, we've got a few ducks, and a nice start on some chickens, and I wanted to make a nice handfasting present for my wife, that of a feather pillow. I have no clue waht is involved. I slaughtered one Cornish already, but after the feathers got wet, they looked crappy--is there a way to fluff these feathers up? How should I store them? This is gonna take a lot more feathers than I think, isn't it? Any suggestions about this would be appreciated.

I don't know if chickens are the same ,but I did ducks with my amish friends,we hung them on the clothesline in pillowcases after washing them in a mild soap.Do yoy have the encyclopedia of country living?I can look it up for you when I get off line.

I had a bag of feathers all ready to hang out to dry. Hubby was helping me with the laundry and threw that pillow case full of feathers in the washer. I had fastened it shut so that the feathers would not blow away in the wind. I didn't know until I was folding laundry from the dryer and found that bag that he had done that. The were nice and fluffy at least!!
