greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just bough an used summicron M 35/2 lens and it is made in Canada. How come is doesn't have serial number on it? What's going on?

Serial number is under the aperture ring. Turn the lens so that aperture index is away from you, then look from the camera end of the lens to the underside of the aperture ring.

It also helps to set the lens to its minimum focus distance. This lengthens the lens and gives you more space to see the numbers. I have this same lens and it is a very good performer.

It happened the same with my 35/2 when I just bougth it, I turned so paranoic, it could be a russian copy, or worst, a mexican copy, but it looked so like an original one, until someone told me to look under the aperture ring, rigth of course how I didnīt think it before, but belive me my mind was as with a motor drive.

Roberto, do they really made Leica copies in Mexico?

Gee, if it really didn't have a serial number, it would be worth $3000 to some collector. "For sale, very rare, Canadian 35mm f2.0 Summicron with no serial number"
