PAL VCD'S Playable On NTSC Systems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I live in the U.S.A. and have a Sony DVD player and purchased some video compact discs from Thailand which are in PAL and surprisingly they played on my DVD player and television. How is that possible? If I purchase some more VCD's from Thailand in PAL, will they still play since the previous VCD's did? Since PAL VCD's play, is there any reduction in image quality since it's not being played on a PAL system?

If you can play one PAL VCD on you DVD player, you can play all other PAL VCDs. Your VCD player supoorts PAL/NTSC input/output. However, as I saw, the PAL VCD image is squished a little bit, which is noticeable (may not be true for all DVD players).

Hi,

Can we identify the PAL/NTSC formats in VCDs by looking at them ie without playing in a player. Which model of SONY do you have?.

thanks and regards laks.
