artists who use shadows

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Public Art : One Thread

I am interested if any artists out there work with shadows or if anyone knows any who do.

Try looking at an artist called Kane Do. He exhibited in an exhibition at the ikon gallery, and drew chalk drawings of his own shadow onto the floor in places around birmingam, in places such as car parks.

Look at the work of Nancy Holt also Carl Cheng's new project-THE CATCH OF THE DAY for New York City.

You might (if you ever check back here and see this!) look at the work of Richard Tuttle. He's a painter who uses simple materials and simple shapes to make quiet and interesting works. Because his materials are so minimal, they all are used consciously, including cast shadows on and around the pieces. Jasper Johns has also employed actual or traced shadows in his work over the decades, and is worth checking out. Best of luck.
