Personally, I like Richard Hoaglund's theory, buried I believe in the End of Times series from this past December.

Egypt to respond to U.S. report into EgyptAir crash

By Associated Press, 6/11/2001 02:28

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) Egypt will present its objections this week to a U.S. report on the cause of EgyptAir's flight 900 crash off the U.S. coast in 1999, an EgyptAir official says.

The National Transportation Safety Board has given Egyptian authorities 60 days to respond to its April 19 findings, which according to a U.S. official speaking in April, found no evidence that a mechanical problem caused the Oct. 31, 1999, crash. All 217 people aboard were killed.

NTSB officials didn't say what conclusions may have been reached.

An EgyptAir delegation will leave for the United States on Tuesday to hand over their response to the NTSB the following day. Shaker Qaladah, head of EgyptAir's safety department, said the response ''includes our opposition'' to the draft report, supported with technical proofs and data.

Early in the investigation, U.S. officials suggested that co-pilot Gameel El Batouty deliberately sent the plane down in a murder-suicide.

Egyptian officials have consistently rejected the theory, saying the crash may have been caused by a mechanical problem in the tail of the Boeing 767.

Boeing has said it has found nothing wrong with the plane.
