INTEREST IN PALACIOS RENEWED

Magpies manager Billy Robson has renewed his interest in 28-year-old Roberto Palacios. The midfielder, known as "The Swallow" in Lima due to his exceptional pace and stamina is international team-mate with Toon star Noberto Salano, has attracted the attention of many European clubs including Coventry and, Wycombe and Scottish giant Hearts.

But with the ambitions of the Black and Whites to enter Europe next year, Robson is well aware he must rebuild the skeleton of his side. We know he has looked into Francis Jeffers and Jason McAteer, but Palacio has been recommended by Solano, who he trusts more than the scouts that recomended the otherSouth Americans on the badfgers books.

Palacios' agent said "Noberto Salano has recommended him to Robson. He's said, 'I have played with this guy for the last six years, he has really nice teeth. Mr Robson should consider bringing him to Newcastle. Longbenton is very nice thank you ver much"

Fucking magic! More cheap South Americans who piss off for a large part of the season to play minor internationals. If there is any truth in this unfounded rumour Robson needs to start changing the medication.

Do you think he'd be interested to come to us I mean what with Wycombe, Hearts and Coventry after him.

That has to be the most depressing thing I've read for a long time - we are now being linked with shoite South Americans that none of the top or even average European clubs are interested in. Only teams in the first division and I wonder where we will be plying our trade at the start of the 2002/2003 season.

Will someone please mach down to St James and remind them that we are playing in the Prmiership in the new season and not Division One.

Also while you are there you may like to point out that we had the second highest average attendances for last season and by my reckoning that is a lot of fecking income. We should be seeing the same sort of committment from the club that the fans show.

All been said before but I need to get this off my chest today. I appreciate that every story is a rumour but there are a lot of agents out there with apparently genuine claims and that is worrying, they can't all be like that Dennis Roach wanker.

I would play Palacios before Shearer and Cort and Jeffers combined.

If any of you watch any other teams you would know about him.

What is this attitude just because he is South American?

You lot would have turned away Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Sonny Anderson because they come from South America.

I know we have had a couple who were not that great, but at the price and terms of their contracts, ie loan they were the best available we could afford.

Give them and me a break, when a "Geordie" team win the World Cup come and tell me we should be signing Geordies. A few years ago every Top team in the PL had Geordies in their side, now it is changing, there are players from all over. You lot would have laughed if we over here would suggest buying Aussies. Who amongst you would not have Viduka or Kewell in our side?

WHAT, oh hello how is everyone? Nice Weekend?

Let's see, we've had the Wolf, and we've had the Sparrowhawk. Now we're after The Swallow, so called because of his pace and stamina!?. Or so called because he's from near the Amazon (Swallows and Amazons!, geddit, oh please yourselves) Evidence suggests it's the crap players in S America they give these ridiculous names to-and I wasn't aware swallows were reknowned for their pace and stamina. They do have some very lovely forked tails though so maybe that's a clue to this lad's real talents.

Who does he play for?

Ha, ha , ha,

You lot are so gullable.

Answers to my "aditional info" on the player that I got from a reliable source ???? are brilliant. Keep up the good postings lads.

Would anyone like to join me in a call for the re-resignation of Rik?

-- Anonymous, June 11, 2001

No not me. I saw the style Rik, what bothers me that the so called Geordie monopoly on optimism is sadly lacking when a rumour like this rises.

Some on here are like goldfish and have short memory spans.

They forget the good signings from a country and whenever a new name appears place the player in the worst player category.

Doing this without having heard of the player is ridiculous. Yes I know we have had some signings that were less than successful, name me a club which has not. To denigrate a player because a fellow countryman was crap is wrong, both logically and morally.

Gus, my comments were related to the fact that the player is also being linked with first division clubs and a Scottish Premier team. Nothing to do with his playing ability (because I haven't heard of him).

I don't care who plays for the team just as long as they are good enough, Geordies, Martians, Cockneys, Peruvians, Wombles whoever. But they have to be good enough and to be honest Robson does not have a good record with buying South Americans for this club. Sure he brought Ronaldo to Europe but Acuna, Bassedas and certainly Cordone don't look Premier League standard never mind World Class.

and Rik, please stop (thank you)

Kegsy, I did not intend anything to be taken personal to an individual on here.

I am just getting fed up with the attitude shown in some of the comments.

Not those meant in jest and NO I am not trying to censor anyone. There seems to me to be too much oh another South American, he must be shite because the others are.

No one knew of Nobby before he came, yet he has done well. Just give some of these blokes a chance.

For example, after watching Bassedas I think his problem is his brain (football type)is working faster than those around him, he plays balls that the other players are not expecting. He has to slow down as much as the others have to speed up to meet somewhere in the middle.

PS what is happening with the gallowgate? I have not been able to get on for about 6 weeks.

Any answers to sueme

My gripe is the number of games that these lads are away for. We have no right to curtail their international careers and if Robson signs them he shouldn't moan about their times away with their country.

For that reason I reckon we should steer clear. We need a consistent team as much as we can. Any inconsistencies should really only be down to injuries and that's where the cover comes in. Knowing our luck with injuries we cannot rely on anyone being fit when Nobby and his mates are in Peru.
