Has anyone used infrared with EOS5 and EOS30

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have read that the infrared frame counter in the EOS 5 and EOS 30 will fog infrared film. Has anyone any experience of using it? If so, which film, which body and what results? It would be an expensive experiment for me if it is a total falure, especially as I havent even got filters yet. I still have time to exchange my camera though if it is necessary.

Both cameras contain IR sensors in lieu of mechanical sprocket counters, and thus both fog Kodak HIE and EIR infrared film.

However, it seems the amount of fogging varies from individual camera to individual camera (not just model type), judging from the comments I've read from various people online. So give it a try. Maybe you'll be lucky and you have a camera which fogs only the sprocket area. Maybe you'll be unlucky and you have a camera which fogs a huge part of the visible image area. Maybe you'll be like most of us and have a camera that fogs the lower few millimetres of the visible image area.

Only one way to find out.
