SEATTLE -- A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit southwest Washington on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake, centered about 30 miles northwest of Olympia, the state capital, occurred at 6:19 a.m.

"This is not considered a very large quake -- barely moderate," said John Bellini, a geophysicist with the USGS in Colorado.

Some residents said they were awakened by the shaking, which lasted a few seconds.

The quake was also felt at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, but no damage was reported, said airport spokesman Bob Parker.

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Northwest in February, causing at least $2 billion in damage.
