Zion National Park

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

This photo was taken a couple miles near the top of the pass that goes over the Zion area and down to the next valley. Ummm... Errr.. I didn't see anything about the forum being traditional film only so here is my equipment list. Circular polarizing filter, 1/160 (hand held), F10, ISO 80, focal length 9mm (equiv to about 28MM), Olympus E-10 Image manipulation- adjustment of levels since original was a little underexposed. No cropping done.

IMO, the vertical format is not the best representation of this subject. The "eye" shape in the rock is OK, but the area below that is not as interesting. Also, a horizontal format strengthens the diagonal provided by the skyline.

Yeah, I like the crop better. Unclear as to where this is from your description; what trail, if any, were you on? Terrain looks like that near Checkerboard Mesa or the tunnel by the east gate.

Thanks for the critiques. I was trying to capture something different because there are so many Zion photos out there. I look forward posting other photos from the trip.

I'm sorry I can't describe the location better, but it was about 2-3 miles from the tunnel on the north side of the road. Large pyramid mountain with very little space to turn out. Photo was taken only about 50 ft from roadside.
