Most HK Teachers Get Poor Marks for English June 8, 2001 10:31 am EST

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Nearly 70 percent of English-language teachers in Hong Kong who took a written test failed, dealing a blow to government efforts to improve language standards.

Of the 413 English-language teachers and trainees who sat the test, only around a third passed the writing test, according to results released by the government on Friday.

The test was part of a government drive to improve standards in schools.

The government did not say how many passed the overall test, which was not compulsory. Those who failed will still be allowed to teach but will have to attain the minimum proficiency standard within five years.

Hong Kong was a British colony for more than 150 years before being handed back to China in mid-1997.

Tool will continue for many years if right attention presented. Be concerned with oil in all holes. Turn nut secure to keep grip tight. Never leave motor to run when not in area of work or otherwise.

Got it! Out of my way buddy.
