"INFAMOUS armed robber Charles Bronson has turned to a town man in an attempt to brush up his violent image.

"Steve Wraith has taken on the challenge of giving the notorious criminal a new public face.

"The 29-year old Felling man has become Bronson's new manager and said he will work to show the real face of a man who he feels has been misrepresented.

"Bronson, born Michael Peterson, has spent 26 years behind bars, but became well known when he kidnapped a teacher at Hull prison in a protest at conditions there while serving a sentence for armed robbery.

"He is currently appealing against a life sentence for the kidnap, which took place during a siege. But the prisoner is trying to take steps to rebuild his image, and, this weekend, will marry.

"Among the guests at Woodhill Prison, Milton Keynes, will be Mr Wraith, who was introduced to Bronson by the Kray twins.

"Mr Wraith was friends with the East End gangsters for more than a decade, until their deaths, after first writing to them while at school.

"Now he has been entrusted with creating a caring image of Bronson. He said he, and a team he has appointed, will set up a website devoted to Bronson and aim to involve the 47-year-old in charity projects. Mr Wraith said: "I have spoken with Charles a few times and we have kept in touch. "He has gone for a change of management because he has been portrayed as an uncontrollable person.

"He has asked me to help him and I wouldn't have done it if I believed he was the monster he has been portrayed as."
