Small Case for Voigtlander Viewfinder?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

How do you carry your wide angle viewfinders? I have the Voigtlander case that stores the lens and viewfinder, but it is so big that it contradicts the small size of the Voigtlander lenses. I would rather use an end to end coupler for the lens and keep the viewfinder in a seperate case. Ideally, something like a small Tupperwear container work work. Any ideas? TIA.

You might paw through the sale box at a local camera store, where they have orphan caps and the like. I'm using a nice little snap-flap leather case that was originally made for one of my Peak loupes, and have noticed such things in camera stores' junk bins.

This may sound like heresy to others, but on my 15mm Heliar, I place a small square of soft velcro the the top of the finder, and the mate piece to the lenscap. The pair then gets wrapped in a trimmed-down Domke lenswrap and travels quite well in the bottom my bag.

And, should you ever want to sell this lens to Martin -- you can use denatured alcohol will remove the velcro tape residue, which will not harm either plastic or the finish -- and he'll never know you committed the act, even if he examines your equipment under his 20x Leitz whizmar scientific loupe! ;-)

I also looked through a pile of old cases and ended up with a very small Peak lube case as well. Figure the odds of that. It almost seems like it was designed for the 25mm finder.

Andrew:

I have to ask... What do you use the Peak "lube" for? :)))

You know, a little 8 power magnifiers for examining nagatives and slides. Peak is the brand name and was it printed on the case as well. Next time I'm over at the place I found it, I'll look and see if he has any more of those cases in his junk box. I'd be happy to distribute them to all the Voigtlander owners here if I find some.

I had a very small velvet navy colored sack filled with Ghiradelli chocolate coins. Too nice to throw out so I'm using it for the Heliar finder. The outside attracts lint but the inside is fine.

Andrew:

I ask again... I know what Peak makes, as I own two of their "lupes" - I just never heard of their "lube". Sorry, guess I'm just uninformed. :(

Looks like a Freudian typo to me. ;-)

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to go there just in case it was TMI (too much information) :)

OK OK, I'm a better photographer than I am a speller. I should have just called it an 8 power magnifier and been done with it.

Velcro on the cap and the finder. Very cool idea--just tried it, and love it.
