Watched the results come in last night and seeing Sunderland South come first. Had to smile to myself when they announced the turn out of 48%, obviously the locals thought it was a cup match.

Especially when nobody else rushed.

so the nf didn't get in Trimdon east then?

I think Sunderland South and Sunderland North (2nd in the count, I believe) should be congratulated. It must have been a hard task to find enough literate and numerate makems to accomplish the counting. Never mind getting them to put down their bananas long enough...!

spelling X was the problem

You dropped the 'h' there Rik :-)

They must have been putting the ballots into piles of 20 as I noticed several of the counters had their shoes and socks off!

They are definitely to be congratulated on their counting speed. But having prehensile toes enables counting by feet and hence doubles efficiency.
So not so big a deal after all?

I notice the peoples choice,'Arfa' Scargill, amassed 912 votes standing against The Prince of Darkness in Hartlepool. Tosser.
-- Anonymous, June 08, 2001
...... actually, when I think about it they're both tossers!
-- Anonymous, June 08, 2001
ClarkyAmbiguous or a double-entendre?
Which one's the tosser?
-- Anonymous, June 08, 2001
I haven't read the papers or watched the news today, heard that the results were similar to last time, anything unusual in any of the results?

I see Jordan got 713 votes !!!! with her policy of free plastic surgery for all
-- Anonymous, June 08, 2001
Actually, David Dimbleby saying the reason that the Makems were prepared to abuse taxpayers money in order to get the first result declaration was because they were anxious to be perceived as a "winning city" made me laugh (nee offence to the Makems, it was Dimbleby I was laughing at).
-- Anonymous, June 09, 2001
You will have noticed that ever since 1992, every sign, banner, poster, piece of council literature HAS; simply HAS to have the word city on it!Grow up you Mackem fools.
