Anders Svensson

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Read today on the swedish version of Sportal.com that Anders Svensson, offensive midfieler in Elfsborg and the national team might be on his way to Newcastle this summer. Sunderland was earlier intrested in him. The fee was then about £2-3M, its now down to about £250-500K because his contract expires in November. If we could ge him for a fee like that I say go for him right away. He has said he is keen to move abroad this summer.

He plays in central midfield but can also play wide right, hes better in the middle tho. He has a good shoot and is always a threath outside the penalty area. Hes also a good passer.

Kind of the player we need in the middle I think playing next to Speed or Lee maybe.

For 2-3M im not sure, but for 250K and up to 1M then he surely will be worth the money.

Can't say I've heard of him, but at that cut price it may be worth it.

How much do you think he'll ask for in wages?

Not very much, of course he has a agent like everyone else. But a fair salary, not to low, not to much.

He signed for Southampton yesterday for 750k. Very interesting purchase as Saints as yet do not have a manager for next season... so who decided on the purchase?

Ya he did. They got a good player for a extremly low price. Lampard for exampel isnt worth £10.25M more, thats for sure.

Stuart Gray was the one most keen on bringing Svensson to Southampton. Maybe thats a hint he will stay for next season.

Yep I think Gray will get the job. None of the fans want Redknapp (rumour mill).

Svensson agent, Kent Carlzon: "We could have reached a deal with Fiorentina. But Rui Costa plays in Anders' position. It was obvious they wanted Anders as back up

The more I think about this the more sad I get. We could have gotten a really good player for almost no money at all. A good passer with a great shot who will be a threat for every team playing vs Southampton next season.

He's one of the nicest guys in the swedish national team and has a great attitude against everything. Well, it will be exciting to follow him in the Saints.
