Has Notts County always been known as the Magpies, or is it just another bit of journalistic clap trap ?

This was prompted by a report headlined ' Magpies happy with signing ', which turned out to be about some foreign player Notts County have signed, and nowt to do with us.

A pity.

I hate to say it but Notts County were called the magpies long before NUFC.

That's NewsNow for you! A few months ago I was sick of the contiuing saga surrounding Bruce Dyer's transfer from Barnslet to Gillingham, then he signed a new contract, you can imagine the headlines about that!

I should have got out more.

In the 40 odd years I've been a mag, I've never even come across a hint that NC were also known as the Magpies.

And it's having salt rubbed in finding out they got there first.

Erm, the magpie is the central part of Notts Countys badge. If the link below works it should show you the club badge.

Well I guess I can't do clickable links in html. How do you put the image directly into the BBS?

But people in Nottingham say they are going to see the pies !!

So we get the Mags and they get the Pies?

Mick, you need to put img src="url" inside angled brackets.

Notts County are the oldest team in the football league according to reports.

Down here in Nottm most people refer to them as County rather than the Magpies.

Notts County also responsible for the black and white strips of Juventus. Honest.

I reckon we should play a game against them to see who can keep the name.

The losers have to be called the zebras.

Nice idea Paul :o)) I tell you what though with our new home disgrace of a shirt it'd be impossible to tell at the end who'd won !

Wey yuh bugga mah, LT, there's a thing. I think the new home shart's great. Best for years, I reckon. Put the NTL logo in black and white, if it has to be there at all, and I might even buy one.

The problem still remains with the numbers on the back. they should have gone with NTL colours of either lime green or Magenta on the number,
