Is Spike's career in jeopardy?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

No doubt by this time Forum readers are well aware of the fact that Spike suffered a "scare" involving his oft-injured Achille's tendon area while working at the junior training camp down in Texas.

This offers up the unsettling prospect that we may be ... well, it isn't a pleasant sort of thing to think about.

I hate to harp on what-might-have-beens, but should Spike be risking the rest of his career and prospects for future OK relay teams just to hack through the thorns of north texas on 95F days in June?

My achilles tightened up when I was shadowing a runner on the first day I was down in Texas. It scared me. The same achilles tendon caused me a lot of trouble last year. My first thought was I'd have to say "no thanks" to the Oringen and the World Champs.

I took it easy the next day and it seemed ok. I still felt a slight stiffness. But, it wasn't bad. I did a little jogging and even shuffled around a course.

By the next day (which would be Monday), the injury seemed to be a thing of the past. Still, I made a point of taking it a bit easy - avoiding any sudden stresses (like jumping and landing with the left foot).

I am confident that I dodged the bullet.

Who would anchor the OK relay team if Spike were injured?

The godfather says Spike is not injured... the Prez can veto, though.
