Toon interested in Viking

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The Ronnie is reporting that the Toon have stepped up their chase for Norweigan playmaker Morten Berre, and a representative is expected to to take in Viking Stavanger's game away to Stabek this Sunday to make a final evaluation of the player.
They say "Berre, 26, can play as either a striker or a left winger - both positions Newcastle are looking to fill this summer.
He is out of contract at the end of the Norweigan season in October after Viking refused to meet his wage demands of £77,000 a season - roughly £1500 a week
". They quote Berre as saying "I have not spoken to Newcastle myself, and I reckon that I must play better over a longer period of time before I can be the target of such a big club as Newcastle."
They add "Berre's form at the start of Viking's season has seen his side go to the top of the table while remaining unbeaten. He is renowned for his pace and creativity and is seen more as a supplier of goals than an out-and-out goalscorer himself, having forged an impressive partnership with former Manchester United misfit Erik Nevland.
Berre is Viking's record signing, having been bought for £400,000 from FK Haugesund. But with the player available on a free transfer in October, United would only need to pay a nominal fee to secure his services
".

Sounds like he could be a decent buy, as he wouldn't demand the wages like some that you hear of.

We could even give him a wage double to make him give 1000000% every match.

Sounds like Cordone. Not keen on players who 'can act as winger or striker'. It tends to mean they're no good at either.

I understand that he's not at all happy with the set-up at his present club Viking. In fact he's like a Berre with a sore head.

This should be Berre'd in an unmarked grave before it goes any further.

Too late I fear. Berre never thought he'd get as much interest as this ?
