What if we bought Jeffers and Carrick from the sale of Dyer?

Personally, I don't mind if we sell Dyer just so long as we replace his creativity. I don't think Carrick would improve the creativity of our midfield. Don't mind Jeffers but 8 million is a lot of moolar. It's the creativity I worry about. Jeffers will score nowt if he never gets the ball. Spped can't hack it and Badass and Acuna haven't impressed me much in a creative way. That just leaves Solano and he wants to leave...

Despite carrying a painful injury for most of his playing time last season Dyer was our best outfield player in my opinion. On his young shoulders, yes he is still very young, rested our chances of survival. He scored the goals and created all he could, didn''t moan about being out of position and played on through excrutiating pain. Medical misguidance apart it was an inspiring part of the season and a shining light in an otherwise uneventful season.

At full fitness what could he do?

We have to keep Dyer for another year. If we can add more quality, we'll get into Europe next season. Dyer will then want to extemd his contract and more quality players will be attracted to our club.

Exactly Rik. However unnatainable WE think that is that is what the Board must be aiming to do, whether or not they are, we will find out over the next couple of months.

Not wishing to look on the black side, but can you imagine Dyer running at our defence

Ya, we should keep Dyer AND add Carrick and Jeffers.

and Bridges, all us big sides need 4 forwards, we have not had three fit ones since the day Sir Les was transfered.

Shearer, Cort, Jeffers and Ameobi, even Lua-Lua if things get really sticky. I can't see us going for another striker if we have signed Jeffers.

we need a more experienced head in attack, shearers going to play at best half the games, Cort has some experience, but not too much, Jeffers has spent most of his short career injured and Ameobi isn't a goalscorer, we could be in the poo if we don't get a more experienced man in...

I've been mulling over our current situation for the past couple of days and have come up with this idea.

First of most of us are agreed that NUFC really need a striker, a central midfielder, a left winger, a left full back and a centre half. Five players.

Now we are unsure of how much money Robson has, however the general belief is that he has a substantial amount to spread over two seasons. Many of us feel that we desperately need all five players this summer. But of major concern is that it may take the sale of Dyer to help fund the purchase of all five players.

However I believe differently. If I was in charge of recruiting for NUFC the following would be my strategy.

1) Sign Jeffers (as he appears to be our forward target).

2) Make a serious run for Carrick. Offer him the left wing berth as a guaranteed starting spot. He has played a fair amount out on the wing for WHam over the past two seasons. And when the need arises he can move infield. State that he would be out on the wing for one season. This allows us another season to run the rule over Bassedas and Acuna, and would possibly see out Lee's effectivce contributions in the centre of the park.

3) Move for an experienced centre half at a modest price. Helder being my prefered option at around three million pounds. Between Helder, Dabizas, Hughes and O'brien we can cover the centre of defence, with the two Caldwells as back up options in case of injury. I would Hope for two to three seasons out of Helder while the four younguns mature.

4) Don't buy a left winger or fullback. We would have the staff to cover these two positions, if not up to the standard we hope for. I would waite untill the following season. Plus we would still hopefully have some money left in the transfer kitty for emergency stop gap filling during the season.

5) Summer 2002. Move for a left winger and fullback. Cover any other team needs.

Can't agree with the idea of Carrick on the left wing. The lad is worried about getting a starting spot in our midfield when realistically he should walk into our midfield ejecting allcomers. He's class in the Premiership according to my mate who's a Hammers season ticket holder.

We've pissed about for the last few years by not replacing Ginola and ignoring Glass. This must be dealt with, this close season or it's another season of mediocraty. We should be pushing for a European place and we need to bring on a team which will take on Europe the following season. That team needs to be place before the latter stages of next season to avoid the usual buying in half a team.

What i'm worried about Deb is that we'll do what we did last year and spend cash on not much and loanees/free unheard ofs (Cordone)

Rather than sppread the cash we should concentrate it on two quality players, proven players. And one should be a slick left winger who can hit Cort and Shearer 9 times from 10. Otherwise the poor sods are never going to see the ball.
