Missing seconds...where lies my problem?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi, I hope someone may be able to shed some light on a problem I've recently discovered. My VCD production, mpeg encoded using TMPGEnc and burnt with Nero 5.5 using 4x speed, is fine apart from when I play them on my Alba standalone DVD player. For some reason it stops approximately 2-3 seconds before it should at the end of the track/disc. As I've edited quite precisely this is a real pisser. The problem does not occur when playing the VCD in my Toshiba DVD drive on the PC. It plays fully to the end of the track to which I had edited. Nor does it occur when ripping or copying another VCD. The copy I make plays the full length of the original. So where's the problem, with Nero 5.5 or TMPGEnc or a combination of the two and my standalone DVD player. Anyone ever come across this problem before? Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lee, I know exactly what your problem is as I've seen it myself. When you burn with Nero, look at the screen after you have dragged your video clip over to the left menu, but before you actually burn it. You will see that there is a setting called something like "Pause". By default, it will have a value of 5 seconds, and it will look like 0:05. You should change this to 0. What it does is it freezes the video 5 seconds before it ends. I have no idea why Nero put this in, but it seems rather useless to me.

Lee, it's been awhile since you posted. I hope you're still hanging around and have figured out what's causing this.

I am having the exact same problem as you. The one solution posted does not help. I am creating SVCDs of very pleasing quality but this one problem is driving me crazy.
