Powers of Angels

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I have heard many things about what angels can or cannot do.. For example, i was once told i can pray that my angel receive Jesus bodily through me, and then even carry those Graces to another person by means of their guardian angel. I believe that we have a tremendous gift in our guardian angels, and i want to respect them and know as much truth about them as possible, but i dont want to place too much emphasis on them or buy into any myths... i am also curious about the whole name-of-your-guardian-angel issue. i have heard on one hand that there are ways to learn the name of your angel (and as a result have a greater influence on them) and on the other hand i have heard that finding out the title of your angel is not appropriate for whatever reason. Please help me out with whatever information you can offer. thank you

In Christ

I thought the whole "name that (your) angel" was a Rosicrucian or A. Crowley thing(Golden dawn). I don't my G.A.'s name, but I know the captain's (of G.A.'s)name Archangel Rafael.

Hello, Greg.

To the best of my knowledge, the Catholic Church does not teach a couple of things that you mentioned:

(1) The Church does not teach that you "can pray that [your] angel receive Jesus bodily through [you], and then even carry those Graces to another person by means of their guardian angel." [Angels are pure spirits. They have no bodies, so they cannot receive the Body and Blood of Jesus for themselves or for someone else. See how privileged we are! (On rare occasions, God has permitted angels to appear in the guise of human beings, but these are not real bodies.)] There is nothing to prevent you, upon receiving Communion, from asking God to bestow special graces upon another person. Some saints have called this "offering their Communion" for a person.

(2) The Church does not teach that you can name (or determine the name) of an angel, guardian or otherwise. However, she does not teach that you are unable or forbidden to do so. I have heard that some holy people have received an angel's name through a private revelation, but we are not required to believe this. I often think about my guardian angel and frequently say the Guardian Angel prayer, but I have never given any thought to wondering about his name. I just feel that it is unnecessary. After all, some people are named "Angel" (both men and women), so it sounds natural to me when I simply address my spiritual guardian as "Angel." Another person whose personality is quite different from mine, however, could feel differently about this.

Our Lady of angels, pray for us.
God bless you.
John

There is a group, mainly in Central Europe (with extensions to southwestern Europe and Brazil), that teaches some weird things about angels, the Opus Sanctorum Angelorum. What you have heard, Greg, is part of their teachings, so be careful. My bishop banned them from his diocese twelve years ago because their teachings were--and are--partially heretic. E.g., their teachings on the powers of angels--and demons--are essentially gnostic.

for me it doesn't matter if you seen any of that things that may help you in your decision any undrestand in about angel. I also don't believe that knowing tha name of your angel prove it that thy real exist but as long as you believe in them and they help to you they will still exist in your heart.

The Guardian Angels (Padre Pio)

See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared. Be attentive to him and heed his voice. Do not rebel against him, for he will not forgive your sin. My authority resides in him. If you heed his voice and carry out all I tell you, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. (Ex 23:20-22)

It is the conviction of the Church that every human being is assigned an angel of God to be his guardian, an angel who has as his task to "lead (us) to the place that (God) has prepared," heaven. Not everyone listens attentively to their guardian angel, however, as he seeks to enlighten them through the voice of conscience to avoid sin, or gives them good inspirations to the love and service of God and neighbor. Certainly Padre Pio was one who did, from the earliest years of life, so that God granted him the vision not only of his own guardian angel but those of others. Many times it was through the guardian angel of a person that their need was brought to Padre Pio's attention, who then prayed for that person. (will continue)

One might ask, why would the angel bring the need to Padre Pio, rather than directly to God? First, people often sent their angel to Padre Pio to ask for prayer. The angels, for their part, like true friends were happy to perform this little service for their proteges, especially the ones who habitually listened to their guidance. Since the angel can do nothing contrary to the will of God, God Himself must have desired it, as well. As with the other forms of intercession and mediation acknowledged by the Church, God has ordained that the true magnificence of His own glory be shown through His working through creatures (angelic and human). As St. Paul noted, God chooses the weak to show up the strong (1 Cor. 1:27).

I will be copying and pasting all day....if I continue this way.

If anyone is interested in what Padre Pio has to say about the power of angels and what a big part they played in his life...involving his spiritual children, as well, go here:

MaryLu, if you'd like to send a link, here is an example.

[A HREF="http://www.ewtn.com/padrepio/mystic/angels.htm "]Link to Padre Pio[/A]

Replace the '[' with '<' and the ']' with '>'. This results in:

Link to Padre Pio

Enjoy,

As a child I always pray to an angel. Now I look foward and seeing that angels will recover the lives of others. That I know of Political refugees and people in asylum. Let there be a way for angels to protect them and recover them.

People are on refugee camps if I must be specific about them and reach out to them, by the power of angels or by the graces of heaven, let it be true they were appropriately assisted in that matter, many have suffered such genocide in political camps, at least let us give chances to life if that be angelic.

We pray all the time, but could we remember to act in advance. Let this be a lesson to you. Angels could be the power to help us on earth and that is final.

Pray for the souls in abidjan cote d'ivoir, africa in African asylee, and political prisoners, they ask for our help and recovery. Ossey Williams, Linda Williams, Hellen Masson, Kevin Masson, George Lamine, Mary Lamine. Let them be recover in the time of our angel in whatever situation of crisis. Eulogy will praise them, and protect them in the help and complete triumph. Please father let that be true.

Pray for the Labor of Malaysia, let it be safe of duration, and mockery, they are not all rebels and army brigades. They ask for a moderator and alternative resort of competency.
