Fans committee

Edited text below taken from orrificial site. Begs one or two questions methinks. Firstly, Wraith is a "non-voting assistant" yet as Fans Liaison Officer gets to moderate ALL communication between the FLC and the board. Why so ? Of course Wraith should sit in on meetings, but why not direct communication between the board and an elected FLC chair or officers, leaving Wraith free to implement whatever strategies his paymaster the club want him to ? Second, seems as if the secretary role will be important in order to ensure key issues aren't missed or 'accidentally forgotten'. Not wanting to suggest your current commitment or workload is lacking Macbeth but is this something you'd considered ? Alternatively, what about putting yourself up for Chair and working closely with secretary to ensure same ? Thirdly, WTF does Rogan Josh think he's on - "On with the show", me arse. Been watching too many b&w war movies I'd say ?

Steve Wraith, who works independently of Newcastle United, is the Club's Fans Liaison Officer (FLO), and he will play an integral part in working with the Committee as a non-voting 'assistant' to the FLC and in attending all meetings of the FLC.

Commenting on the results, Rogan Taylor, from the Football Research Unit at the University of Liverpool, who was instrumental in the setting up of the Committee, said:

"I am quite pleased with the turnout of voters which is over the 10% figure. Now it is a case of getting on with the show."

The FLC is not in itself a decision making body as such, but can present their recommendations to the Board, through the FLO, for consideration and possible implementation.

It is intended that a meeting of the FLC will take place approximately four times each calendar year, dates to be confirmed at the first meeting of the Committee. Where practical or possible, the Board and/or other 'management' as appropriate will be represented at meetings of the FLC.

The FLC will appoint a secretary from within the membership to administer such as convening meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes.

Stevie Wraith is going out of his way to try and be neutral and was also quoted as saying if he felt the whole thing wasn't working he'd resign. He is also NOT a paid employee of the club. I don't nkow the guy so I don't know if he has an ego which needs him to look like and important Newcastle person, I'll wait and see on that one.

I have thought about whether I want to be either secretary or chairman. In a totally stereotypical way the secretary will undoubtedly be the woman, cos "they are good at those sort of things". Which means I'll argue hard for it not to be her. I'm not sure what the chairman's role would be, need to discuss this further.

From other comments I feel Wraith's role may well be to work with the club on suggestions that eminate from the committee. It is expected that a board member will be at the meetings, if they aren't represented at the first one I'll be furious. David Stonehouse has shown the most interest so I'd expect it to be him.

Jusy make sure you don't get suckered into being Secretary, Macbeth.
One thing the Club could do to significantly ease this process is provide someone to take meeting minutes - an onerous task, and one that prevents the note-maker from taking a meaningful part in the discussions.

I've played secretary it is so frustrating, I won't be that person this time

The upside of being a secretary is you get to wear benders as part of the uniform. (c;

.......but (I'm reliably informed) he does that already ;-)

If the chairman is supposed to be one of the elected people then I think you should go for it MacB, you got the most votes at least.

FLC suggestion:

What about vending machines (loads of them) selling ice cold cans of beer that are turned on 5 mins before half time. That way they don't need to employ more of the ever so helpful, under trained bar-staff and the beer will be better than the crap they serve at the minute.

And they'd make handy missiles to launch at Warren Barton when he's clapping the fans again...

Excellent Idea about the cans. A stottie sandwich vending machine would be a good ideas as well.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2001

Presumably the money saved by having machines rather than staff means they could make the beer free ?

They would make decent missiles if you were allowed to take them into the arena but I suppose that will never happen.

Did you see Wraith having a go at Supermac on the "3 Legends" television show? Talk about "poacher turned gamekeeper"! He's a total prick.
