Cort's Injury & Pre-season Preparation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

According to this morning's Journal, Carl Cort has definitely suffered ankle ligament damage, although the full extent of the damage is still to be assessed. The paper has picked up indications from the Club that the damage may well be serious - torn ligaments on both sides of his ankle - and that he could be out for a long time.

So, at the latest count, it looks like we will be missing the following for the start of the season:
Shearer
Dyer
Cort
Speed (suspended)

In addition, with Gallacher and Cordone now gone the only fit senior striker we presently have on the books is Ameobi, plus I suppose Luax2. Also, with SG gone we now have no left-wingers.

All of this suggests:

i) a very disrupted pre-season
ii) a certain urgency to sign a striker, or even two, and a left sided m/f player.
iii) the full folly of playing in that utterly meaningless fixture at Exeter has now come home to roost. Hopefully, we might learn from this serious error, but somehow I doubt it.

It's early days Clarky, I bet Dyer and Shearer will play in the first games despite not being fully recovered.

Is that supposed to make me feel better Rik?

have you heard anything about us not signing anyone prior to the season? If I remember Cort himself was a late summer signing (End of July???) for us last year.....

The way Cort's luck has gone since signing for us, if he wasn't injured at Exeter, he'd have been injured in China, against Bilbao, any of our other preseason friendlies, the first game of the season, etc.

In a glass-half-full way of looking at it, better he got injured in May and has a chance of being back at some point during the season, than get injured in August and miss the entire season.

Hmmmm....This isn't making me feel better. Barkeep, fill my glass please. And keep em coming!

At least noone can say that the rest of the team take it as an excuse to not bother if any of these key players are missing...

If Glass is always half full Ciara, maybe that is why YBR does not want to keep him!!
