Tattoo equipment for Critters??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I never thought I'd see the day when I was thinking about tattooing my animals. I could pick up a Spaulding and Rogers kit for real cheap, but I think they aren't too interested in seeing hula girls on the rabbits ears, are they?

At any rate, there are two types that I am considering and I was wondering if anyone had experience with tattoo equipment and could reccommend something for me. Has anyone used the hand held, battery operated "Bat Tat"? This looks very easy and natural to me. Or there is the standard crimping style available at Jeffer's etal. I will be doing goats and rabbits and not any people unless I meet someone I really don't like!(health department please note that is a j-o-k-e) Thanks for any and all advice!

What's wrong with hula girls on rabbits and who are "They?"

nuthin' wrong with it at all! Just thinking of those pesky little judge folks at the 4H shows and what not. "They" are always "the establishment" aren't they?

For rabbits and goats with smallish ears get the small pet Tattoo set from Jeffers, Green paste is superior to all others. For Nubians and Calfornians/New Zealands, I have alwaysed used the Large Tattoo kit. Don't get rooked into buying all the alphabet, just buy your tattoo sequence for ADGA, a couple of year letters like P for this year, and whatever you are going to put in your rabbits ears. You can do it freehand, there is no "rule" on this. But no place for hula girls on registration papers :) Vicki

Gosh, Doreen, I wish rabbits had a longer life span! I have an urge to shave Fluffy up the shoulders and have DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR tatood on that meat buck's bicep.

Now Laura, Peta might think that would be cruel and come to take Fluffy and his new decoration away from you...you wouldn't want that would you?

Thanks for the laughs!

"They" don't count for sh*t. the crimp style is the best because of the lack of a critter to hold still long enough to get the more intricate designs. Although, I once had a great dane who loved to be spanked, but she went back to Tennessee on me. Honestly, go with the crimp style equipment, and use the last 4 digits of your S.S. #. Good luck and happy thoughts to you & yours!

We have used several different types of tattooers. We love the battery operated ones, plus they appear to be far less painful / more humane for the rabbits. (I can hook you up with one for no more of an expense that what it costs to buy the clamp style tattooers - email me if interested).

Hey Doreen ,What did Evea have to say?I'm wondering what to get myself. The pen-tat or the bat tat?I hear that they don't feel a thing. It's allot less painful.I just purchaced a rabbit from someone who uses the bat-tat and it's the best darn tatoo that I have EVER seen.Everyone and the last show was checking it out ,talking about how very nice it looked and the judges loved it too.Everyone was crowded around my rabbit.I want one but they are so VERY expencive.Rachel
