Quick Strip

When stripping paint from a number of relatively small items it might be easier to bring the parts to the stripper than the stripper to the parts. When reworking an old window sash, the quickest way to get the paint off and the putty out involves submersing the sash in the stripper. Build a 2x4 frame large enough to surround the sash and line it with heavy plastic. Pour stripper into the frame and put the sash in face down. The sash will remain wet and the stripper will work quickly. Typically the paint and putty will fall off the sash with little scrubbing involved. Remember to follow all the safety recommendations supplied with the stripper being used.Quick Strip Part II

When using chemical strippers they almost always work faster if evaporation can be slowed. Try applying the stripper and then covering or wrapping the surface with plastic. The plastic will inhibit evaporation and speed the stripping process.
