The Final ITK Match Day Thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I think he'd like the title of the thread:-)

If a life can be summed up in an hour then justice was done today in a ceremony both moving and light-hearted.

As 'Send in the Clowns' was being played the sell-out crowd at the Breakspear Crematorium found their places for the reflection on Ken's life. Standing room only at the back and sides visibly showed what a popular man Ken was to both his family and friends. In attendance from the BBS were Bobby and Scratchy, friends from as far afield as Newcastle, Australia, Hampshire, London and the US were represented by flowers and cards.

As the service began - Morning has Broken as the hymn chosed by Mrs ITK as a song sung from their first fixture together at their wedding in 1984.

A moving and upbeat account of Ken's life - learning along the way that he was actually raised in High Heaton (he kept the High quiet on his Heaton threads didn't he?) was interspersed with Lindesfarne's Fog on the Tyne as a fine rememberance of the yearly family outings to a rainy caravan park in Whitley Bay.

NUFC as a club actually managed to actually do something positive and wrote to Jenny expressing their sadness

In true Stew Canel spirit, fittingly as we left the chapel, he got the last laugh by playing us out with (and this is probably what he wants us to take away with us) Monty Pythons 'Always look on the Bright Side of Life'

So farewell Ken and THANK YOU

Your friend,
Andy

Excellent!

I truly believe a funeral should be a celebration of someones life and you should remember them for the good they gave.

Rest in peace, our mate Ken.

Thanks Andy. I'd love to have been at the fixture but couldn't get back in time. It's clear from your description of the match that what we had witnessed in the earlier exchanges (both as spectators and reading the reports on here) was obviously a true representation of the man. Fog on the Tyne, Clowns and Bright Side are typical of Ken. That they also had a replay from his first match is very fitting indeed.

My heart goes out to Jenny and the girls. At least the long healing process has started.

Thanks to you and Bobby for going - and to Clarky I believe for the link with NUFC.

Thanks Andy - I read this yesterday in the office - had to sign off due to leaking eyes imminent.

RIP Ken
