The end of an era

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Just filled in the deletion form for my web sites. Can't be bothered to keep it up any more and the £18 a month that I save will pay a large chunk of my golf club membership.

Can't decide if I should give it up completly next season or do a joint site WITH A MACKEM on some free webspace. I was thinking on the lines of a humourous www.TyneandWearfootball.com. which would try to promote friendly rivalry between the two teams rather than this "We hate eah other crap "

Any thoughts?

IF you're serious (I'm never sure!), I think it's a great idea Rik - 'cos I'm fed up with it also.
What's needed are more people prepared to speak out against the vile hatred that is spouted, and do little things to begin the process of breaking it down.

i, for one, can say that ml3 is a top bloke and a wizard on flash...get him to design some flash stuff?

I shall miss your website Rik. You've brought me so many laughs over the years as you did more than any other person ever to prove that a little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing! ;-)

Thanks marra.

I wouldn't mind doing part of a web site, and I am being deadly serious about working alongside a maKem. I could do some Newcastle rumours / Stories and a maKem could do the other 50%. No talk of inbreds, Skunks etc, perhaps organising competions between the rtival sections would be better fun than slagging each other off.

The web site was ahead of its time, it was just amazing when I saw you in the pub and you weren't 13 years old

no rik isn't 13 he's 31 being 13

Put me down for some of that Rik. It's about time we grew up and saw each other as something other than just a bunch of total nutters who look as though we have F all better to do than slag each other off, me being as bad as - if not worse than - anybody else, although maybe not so much in print as in the privacy of my own homophobe.

HEY RIK..... No MUCKIN ABOUT~!!!!!!! GIT THE SITE UP!!!!! I NEED MY LINKS!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2001

Sorry to hear you're packing it in Rik but I think it's commendable you've gone on for so long - it must be very difficult to keep the enthusiasm going to keep these things fresh and up to date.

Great idea about a Magpie/Mackem site. It would be a lot more fun to have a mock, vehement "We're much more sh*te than you are" kind of debate than the present vitriol that passes between the two sets of fans.

Aye, a lot of your hard work has gone into that site Rik. Just imagine, had it not been for that, yuo'd have been richer that Alf Ayed and have been playing a round a lot more than you did. Sorry to see it go, but you're making the right decision. If your heart's not in it, then it's not worth going on. Sounds like a lot of support for the "lonley supporters" web pages.

So I take it you are not winning the F1 comp then Rik?

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2001

I was joint bottom of the F1 league gus, before I shut it down. The main reson though was lack of volunteers for my Predic Tit girl page 3 feature.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2001

I have more girlfriends if you need them for PredicTit....

Hey Rik - thanks for the site. I used it all the time for my links and particularly to this board and the NUFC search - I even read your stuff as well! Really appreciate it. I understand why your giving it up - webbing takes time and money.

-- Anonymous, June 02, 2001

I've put the index page of the old site on freeserve. It contains links t this site/ Macbeths site/ Newsnow / and other NUFC links which may be of use.the URL is still the same

Ntlsports.com

I might do something next year, possibly jointly with any maKem who fancies trying to get North Easterners to start liking each other a bit more.

Rik, you always were and still are a one-off. I've enjoyed your site so much for the years of its development....(except one obvious time regarding a certain gentleman from North of the Border that I still feel could have....nah, enough of that !)

I still remember that first tentative comment I made about the 'purple'(?) colour scheme that was the only thing I wasn't keen on with your first effort. First there was that lovely little mouse that kept zooming in and away and then it just growed and growed. Brilliant....you were a pioneer, Prince.

And I Love the idea of the Magpie/Mackem site. It could be hilarious, interesting and fascinating... really worth trying to do....building bridges across a river of hate that threatens to get out of control at times. We'll have you all teaching the United Nations how to do it in time :-))

Lots of love and thanks again.

val xxxxxx

Lots of love.
