Next seasons attendance

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Last season we never had less than 50,000 at a league game. Next season I think there will be a few thousand empty seats. Could the maKems have higher attendances than us next year?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did....

Especially since they give so many seats away....

were there 46,000 season tickets sold last season at St James'?

I was talking to a customer who took up his new seat fairly near the back of the new Level 7 tier last season. He is going to pick his matches and believes he'll get a better seat for the games that he attends next year. He also reckons a number of the new seats around where he was won't be renewed next season.

Tell him he's wasting his time...the best seats are up in the 7th tier :)) that's where the atmosphere is!! I tried about 4 other areas of the ground and none came close to my proper seat....

I'm seriously thinking of changing my ticket this year. I've sat at the back of the Gallowgate since being moved from the paddock and it is SO dull. The nice man in the ticket office siad it would be a lottery if I asked for a move as I could end up with a worse seat. Whats it like at the back of the Leazes?

The seat next to me could well be empty, I haven't posted my sons application off yet. I could always scribble out the name and insert another?.

From the Official Site (Not that it will help much):

SEASON TICKET HOLDERS TO CHOOSE THEIR ST. JAMES' PARK SEAT Newcastle United are pleased to advise its season ticket holders, who have sent in their renewals for next season and are interested in an upgrade into one of the four 'Bar' areas of the ground, where, in some cases, season ticket prices have been reduced, to come in to St. James' Park and view the seating areas for themselves in order that they can specifically choose their own seat in the appropriate Bar area. Those season ticket holders who have informed the Club that they are considering an upgrade, will be contacted by the Box Office who will then arrange an appointment for supporters to come in to the stadium, look at seating plans and talk to the Box Office staff, and therefore be in a position to fully evaluate all their options before making a final decision. In addition, any supporter who has already sent in their renewal for next season, but has not yet considered an upgrade, may telephone the Box Office and arrange for an appointment also come in.

The price reductions in Bar 1892 and Sports Bar areas have a new price structure which reflects the new prices that have been implemented in the other bar areas of the Milburn Stand.

Newcastle United Director of Football Administration Russell Cushing commented:

"We are always looking at ways where we can give our supporters the best possible choices in selecting their seats in the stadium and at the same time, giving them full value for money.

In inviting our supporters in to St. James' Park to meet the Box Office staff on a one to one basis, we are looking to give them the best quality service possible."

The ticket prices in question are:

Adult Snr Citizen Sports Bar (Sir John Hall Stand) £725 £616 Bar 1892 (Milburn Stand) £795 £676 Sovereign Club (Milburn Stand) £750 £638 Black & White Club (Milburn Stand) £750 £638

Nice, but what about the rest of us that are happy enough in our price categories and would like a better seat in that range? Or move to one of the 'non-posh' areas? Would it be so difficult to arrange something where ST holders can request seating in a certain area. If it's available, they can be moved. If not, they keep what they have. Or even to have the same courtesy of coming in and choosing a seat? Realistically, how many people would actually change if given the opportunity? Would it be dozens? hundreds? thousands?
