Re: Ken - thought you'd all like to see this...

A friend of mine used to work with Ken at the BBC and she forwarded me this which i beleive appeared in an in-house BBC magazine. I love the 'willing to enter into a debate with anyone' line...!

Ken Dixon Ken Dixon joined the BBC in 1980 as a scenery booker. He soon migrated to the duty office and thus began a long career of speaking to the public on behalf of the corporation. He was passionate in his defence of the BBC and was always willing to enter into a debate with anyone who questioned its impartiality, ethics or morality. Ken's knowledge of the BBC was phenomenal and he was regarded as an invaluable source of information and advice. His great love was sport - no-one ever managed to ask a sporting question to which he didn't know the answer! He was an avid Newcastle United supporter. When his beloved team lost the 1999 FA cup final to Manchester United, Ken wore his NUFC tie-pin upside down and was inconsolable for weeks. He was proud of his Geordie roots.

Ken left the BBC at the end of April after 21 years. He was excited about the future, telling us 'life begins at 44'. He came to see us three weeks ago and had never looked better or happier. He was beginning a new job on Monday May 14 and everything was going well. He tragically died of a heart attack on Friday May 18. Ken's untimely death has shocked and saddened everyone who knew him.

Ken was one of those blokes you thought would always be there. None of us can quite believe he won't. Our thoughts are with his wife Jenny and their two daughters Steph and Abbey.
