And what exactly did he chat to him about? From TeamTalkBollox...

Steve Bruce has spoken of his desire to transform Crystal Palace's fortunes after today being confirmed as the new manager at Selhurst Park The Eagles today unveiled the former Huddersfield and Sheffield United boss as their sixth manager in the last five years. The former Manchester United star has signed a three-year contract - with a two-year option on both sides - after leaving Second Division Wigan earlier in the week. Bruce was able to walk out of the JJB Stadium without any compensation after working for the final six games of last season without a contract. He is the surprise choice to take over from Alan Smith, who was sacked two games from the end of last season with the club looking at the Second Division. The job was widely expected to be handed to Steve Kember who won games against Portsmouth and Stockport County to help the club preserve its First Division status. The appointment of Bruce has already brought wide spread condemnation from supporters and ex-players alike who wanted Kember to keep the job on a permanent basis. Kember is, however, staying on as Bruce's number two while Terry Bullivant has been promoted to first-team coach from his post as reserve team boss. Palace chairman Simon Jordan confirmed that he had spoken to Newcastle boss Bobby Robson before making the appointment and that everybody at the club was now was 'reading off the same page'. Bruce said that he has been promised transfer funds and was aiming for a play-off place next season with the squad he has. "The chairman is a Crystal Palace fan and he wants the club to be playing in the Premiership and that is why I'm here. "I hope that I can bring the success to the club that he wants. We have the basis of a very good squad and it is fair to say that they under achieved last season. "The chairman wants to take the club into the Premiership and there will be money to spend. "We have to be aiming for a play off position with the squad we have," said Bruce.
