family enclosure information needed please

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I've been thinking of exchanging my season ticket for one adult and one child's seat in the family enclosure. When I spoke to the ticket office at SJP, they told me I would have to write to the club requesting to go on the "large" waiting list. They wouldn't answer questions on the extent of this waiting list. Does anyone know how likely it is I will be able to get the seats within a couple of season's. Also what are the seat prices for this area. Any info most appreciated ! Cheers

Sounds like an excuse for our newly elected member of the fan's liaison whatsit to put someone under pressure.

Go get'em, Macbeth

I was hoping to get in the family enclosure last season, but they sold out BEFORE application forms for the new 14,000 seats were sent out. It is obviously too small and I would have thought that another 10 rows in the front of the existing area should have been added this season to the Family enclosure. Instead we'll find that next season we have 4 or 5 thousand emty seats in other areas and a waiting list of 4 or 5 thousand in the family enclosure.

I think, we should put our man MAC onto it , as one of the first things to be addressed by the fans commitee.

It does seem strange that there should be a waiting list for some parts of the ground, and they can't sell seats in other areas ! I mean it seems obvious to extend the family enclosure.....doesn't it ???

It would seem to me that the Fans Liason Committee will have too many points to raise for them to get anything concrete out of the club.

"It's with the board for approval" will be a stock answer.

There answer would probably be " The existing family enclose lounge can only comfortably cope with 2,000 fans so we can't extend it. Then there is the matter of upsetting fans by moving them . We don't want to go through another S O S farce.

I would put it down to short termism. Get £400 for a seat is better than getting £400 for two seats. The problem beeing that we are locking out thousands of future fans, unlike our cousins down the road, who are letting the bairns in for virtually nowt.

The family enclosure is excellent, we're in there. I was dubious but the prices are adult 299, child 125, whereas a normal adult ticket for the Leazes is 392.

Sadl Rik's comment about the capacity is actually true. The main room is the width of the pitch and is comfortable pre-match as people come and go to seats or just hang around. At half time it seems quite a bit busier as everyone rushes for chips/loo/half time scores. The facility is the full depth of the stand and the full width of the ground so it cannot easily be enlarged.

This should not stop the club selling children's tickets at a far greater discount than they do at present. In the Leazes it is currently 241 for a kid, or 61% of an adult price. Now when I was a boy they always charged half price or maybe a bit more for kids. This was fine when it meant adults paid a pound and kids 50p or 60p. To expect a kid to pay over £12 per game is just not on. There is no earthly reson why the Family Enclosure kid with better facilities pays roughly half of what the lad sitting two rows in front pays.

Currently I benefit from the discounted ticket for Ben, but that doesn't stop me from making this a priority. The lack of youth coming through isn't just an issue on the pitch.

Hmm, seems like I may have a long wait then :-( I could get a child's reduction elsewhere I suppose, but as my current seat is costing me £500 and is up in the gods, I was hoping to relocate !
