-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Good Lord! I get in and I have no e-mail and just H is in here talking to herself? Sad, sad.

I thought Berman was in today.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

No, I think he said he was taking his bday off. Where be the T and the A to the B to the C?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Look at our little greenspun getting all neglected for email.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

I'm here.

Honestly, I'd rather stick to Greenspun. Shall the MOC come on in heyah?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Well, no because then he could read about allthe meeeeean things we say about him.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Yes, the Greenspun in much better, but we can't have the MOC come in and be able to read the many evil things I've said about him.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Did we all go to lunch?

I had grilled chicken. It was okay. Like y'all asked.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

ooooooh, y'all. Are any of you on diary-l??

http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/oljslam/

This just got sent across the wire. . . .

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Oh yeah. Archives. Duh.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

That right there is some harsh shit.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Archives? Whatchu mean, T?

People, that makes me want to quit HYD. Or totally change it, or something.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Why would you want to change it? It's great.

I think she meant MATH forum archives.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Oh, you meant the Greenspun archives.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Greenspun archives, yes.

That site makes you want to quit HYD?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Because what's up with the public scavenging? I don't even enjoy it when someone slams someone I don't like - I don't even care if it's true.

I don't like the backbiting that goes on among people who write journals, is all. I know it's dumb, but all that shit is so unprofessional - and I know all these people ARE non-professional and that's the whole point of writing this way and blah blah blah, but the bitchyness is what I can't take.

I'm just too sensitive, I guess. I don't like it when someone gets called out in public. I don't like it that whoever wrote all that stuff is anonymous. It's cowardly.

Why bash Pam? I don't think she ever said she invented those styles or that slang - WE did. And yeah, stee's a major name-dropper and he pees all over pamie's leg in every entry - but whatever. He's always been pretty interesting. It's not like he's Meg, making shit up.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

And it's not like that stuff about Pam's style and Beth's quitting all the time hasn't been said already.

I just want to remove myself from all the connectivity of the "community" if I'm going to keep writing HYD. I try not to mention pamie or anybody else very often - and I'm not very good at it, because I somehow link to AB or Omar in every entry - but I want the site to be something beyond the current style of the OLJ. I don't know how to do it. I'd rather write a magazine than a journal, I guess, but I can't seem to stop talking about myself, which, I suppose, indicates that I have some internal need to talk about myself.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

It's interesting. That site is mean, for sure, and I don't disagree that there are certain members of the journalling community who blather on about themselves ad infinitum. My solution is to not read the people who really annoy me. Like Rob - he's dull as hell, and if I was his wife, it would kill me to hear him refer to that monkey girl as his Best Friend. I read him, though, maybe once every two months.

The whole "community" thing is interesting, though. It is very clique-ish, and I wish that the thread Allison had started on the topic took off. Maybe the reason it didn't, though, is because there are only a few people who are really active in the community, if that makes sense. For every time Pamie links to Stee, for instance, there are like a million other journallers out there who don't. Journalling celebrity is a whole other ball of wax. There are alot of people out there who just don't care, or who are too daft to pick up on it.

It would be intersting if that site made some cracks about pamie's fans - if there's anything that's caused people'e opinion of pamie to change, I bet it has more to do with the thousands of bizarre 14-year- olds who incessantly pad and start inane threads than it has to do with her actual writing.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

I like that you said Stee pees. That made me giggle.

I feel very removed from it. I like that. I have my friends and we all journal and it's fun. I think what we have is fun and I enjoy it immensely. I like what you write in HYD, Allison. It's not overly personal but it's just personal enough. Especially when you write about your crazy family and shite.

It's just scary when there are people out there who act like the famous journallers are beyond reproach or entitled to something. Not that I'm sure anyone knows what that "something" is. Or that pam and eric's break-up was worse than "tom and nicole."

Or I could just be too subjective.

It's just scary when there are people out there who act like the famous journallers are beyond reproach or entitled to something. Not that I'm sure anyone knows what that "something" is. Or that pam and eric's break-up was worse than "tom and nicole."

What's scary to me is that people act like there are FAMOUS journallers. There are thousands of people writing journals. For every one listed at DHAK, there are a thousand listed at diaryland.

What has to be kept in mind is that it's the readers who think the the popular people are entitled something, just like it's fans who think celebrities are more important than they are. That behavior feeds on itself, and soon enough, everyone starts believing the hype.

As far as Pam and Eric's breakup - it's the perfect example of why I don't write about Chris in my journal. If I tell the world all about our relationship, I'll have to tell the world if it ends.

She set her page up that way, to be a personal account of her life, and she got wildly popular and people just wanted to know more and have more and more of the style she wrote in. It's so friendly, it even appeals to stupid teenagers. So now, unless she changes what she does, she has to keep writing about herself in the way she always has.

Can you imagine what a WHIP that is? I don't think she wants to do it anymore.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

If I were in her shoes, I'd want to drop pamie.com and start fresh somewhere. I imagine that she's in a tight place, though. You're right about the fans, though - they drive this (in most cases - there are definitely exceptions).

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

What has to be kept in mind is that it's the readers who think the the popular people are entitled something,

No, I TOTALLY agree. That's what's scary. The cult like fans.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Yeah, and the more "fans" people get, the more they perceive they have to keep it all going.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

But wait. Are you saying there aren't famous journallers? Because I think there are. It might not be the kind of celebrity the world is used to, but it's a kind of fame nonetheless.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

No, it's actually the EXACT kind of celebrity the world is used to. I think this journalling universe has been created, and people perceive certain journallers as being celebrities in it.

But, you know, there are plenty of people out there writing journals who have probably never HEARD of pamie or Beth or stee. That's what I was sort of trying to say, without saying it, in that Community thread.

And I certainly agree that everyone is open to criticism, but not in a tabloid like that Slam thing. Whoever wrote that is probably another "famous" journaller. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Rob, himself (why not? His wife won't ever see it.) or Dave Van, or somebody.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Bah. It just makes me mad, is all. I wonder if whoever it is will have the nerve to post it Squishy or 3WA. Someone will, eventually, I guess.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Who's Dave Van?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Some jag who is constantly starting trouble on Beth's forum. I've never read his journal, but I see his name around and he is, reportedly, an ass.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Not everyone can be as great as MATH. Honestly, I'm surprised there hasnt' been some sort of backlash on that, especially since people link to us as "the math club."

The fuzz getting their furr in knot doesn't exactly count.

Leigha's become my new Meg and I miss her terribly.

What I DO think is funny though, is that Rob and Dana encourage slamming on 935, but obviously don't like it when it's about them elsewhere.

AB - get in here!

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Angels? Hello?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

I'm here. So busy with work. I want to have a job where I don't need to deal with clients. Or working.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

A job where there was no working would be heaven. And if you could do it from your bed.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

and make the same salary.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Ah. Can someone hook me up with that?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

And get free cheese every day.

Sorry - I went to grab some lunch.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

But Allison, you already eat cheese in bed.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Yeah, but only every two weeks. I want it as a full-time job.

HHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Yeah, a two week cheese eating rotation is not cool.

People! I have one hour to kill!

Eric has to drive his dad's minivan. How much does that make me laugh? But his dad corrected him and said it's a "truck." Right.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Very funny. How far away is P-burgh from you?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

2.5 to 3 hours. Not far. It's also home to the closest IKEA so people bop over there a lot.

It's just been a novelty to be in the same time zone.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

I was like - he took all the seats out and filled it with car parts didn't he, and E was all - No, there's one seat back there! Oh, and car parts.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Not to L_L myself again, but. . .

I'm out! Everyone have great weekends!

AB - thanks for all your CSS help today. Hopefully I'll get it sorted out. Blah.
