Quinton Fortune

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Quinton Fortune is avilable from Manure at £3 million! A left winger who is going to provide a bit of quality and well within our budget. This lad has played European football for Manure and as far as I have seen he has never let them down.

If something is worth saying it is worth saying twice as someone said once before ;0)

At least someone saw the irony in that one!

Reckon LR would have a field day if we signed one of his most disliked players.

I think I never have seen him play, anyone who has? If we could get the price down to say £2M, will he then be worth it?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

I suppose at that price he would be a good squad player and we have one of those in Stephen Glass, if he signs a new contract. But idf we are scraping around South America for one of Nobby's mates come September then I'll be pissed off we didn't get Fortune.

We have to start thinking big again, all this talk of bargain basement / Man U rejects is depressing me again.

Nothing I have seen from the club or Bobby Robson suggests to me that any incoming transfers this close season will be of any great value. In truth they are playing quite a good game becuase nobody knows how much cash the club really have to spend.

The PLc Chairman said that Robson would have funds to spend and Douggie hall said £100 million would be made available in the next two years to cover wages and transfer fees.

£50 million in one season, £25 million in wages which would allow for the four new players, and £25 million in transfer fees for each season. Not unrealistic I suppose.

thinking about it dougs probably not far off, players these days want 5 million just to put a shirt on. i think we'll get a couple of freebies a 'big signiing' and a medium buy...just like last year!

Fortune is a donkey, is overpriced and fails to hold a regular 1st team place...of course we'll buy him :-(

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

The £25 million wages is for the whole squad. I think currently we stand at around £23 million after some trimming by Bobby, so four new players would obviously take us to around £26-28 million? slightly higher than Douggie's figures but if we get rid of Marcellino etc plus the free transfers there must be room for the additions.

De Builder, "In truth they(NUFC) are playing quite a good game, because nobody knows how much cash the club really have to spend." Never has a truer(?) word been spoken, but I suppose you could say that about a lot of clubs in the EPL...it just so happens my season ticket renewal is due by the end of next week...hmmmmm!

Never been impressed by QF - not as good as Stephen Glass, so why let him go for nowt and then buy an inferior player for £3mm.
On that basis, I suppose there must be agood chance of us buying him!
