Solano covets move!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I realise this has been mentioned in passing on a couple of other threads today. However, having just read the article in tonight's Ronnie I'm bloody incensed by his words, viz:-

"If there was a firm offer I would shut my eyes and walk or swim as far as the Bernabeu (Real Madrid's stadium). But unfortunately there is no offer and there have been no rumours about a move to Spain."

I don't know who the flick this comedian thinks he is, but in my eyes these words are tantamount to high treason. Mr "One-Game-In-Five" is nowhere near as good as he apparently thinks he is, and as far as I'm concerned if he doesn't want to wear the b&w shirt with pride then the mercenary toe-rag can bog off.
He's finished as far as I'm concerned - history!

So I take it he won't be in your future TeamPicks, Clarky, eh?

The article also says that he supported Real as a kid. So how is that any different to other players on other teams saying the same kind of thing about us? (hey, it does happen once in awhile ;-) )

I think his comment is being blown a bit out of proportion. Especially as he does say he's not received an offer. He's a talented player in a team that has underachieved for as long as he's been here. Can he really be blamed for feeling that way about Real? How many players would do the same if Real came in for them? I just think he was a bit careless in making that remark public, mainly because it was bound to be blown up and make life more difficult for him.

I never get too upset about stuff I read in the Chronic or any other newspaper. Nobby has given his all for us, always says good things about the fans and has made and scored a lot of valuable goals.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

We all know Solano supported Real as a kid but do we need to be reminded of it every summer, in a manner which suggests he wants to leave?

The sooner he signs a new contract or gets sold the better, get rid of all this confusion. If we leave him to go on a free next year it would be a massive feck up!

I'm with Jonno on this one....he's always said good things so we shouldn't get too upset when he's being attributed with saying something not so good....lets see what he does before we get upset....

Agree with Jonno too - not as if he's coming out with Harmoan style nonsense is it. Rather he stayed than left.

As I say the club have to get him on a new contract this close season or we're losing money on him big time.

Why are the press so interested in publicising this story when it is so blody evident that nothing will ever come of it?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2001

Beacause we bite at anything that says NUFC i.e. buy those very same papers

And they've got nothing new to write about so have to make stuff up.

Get ready for the "Steve Harper, who turns 50 on his birthday next Friday..." stories. ;-)

With respect they didn't make this up - they quoted HIS remarks from another publication, remarks of the kind he has made before.
Neither do I accept that "he has given his all for us" - he played about three decent games for us all last season, for a 3 month spell was nothing less than a friggin disgrace, and if it had been my decision he would have playing at KP until he bucked up his ideas.
His words say to me that his heart is not in playing for us, but his head says "I'm picking up a very decent wedge, and they seem happy with what I'm putting back in, so fine it could be worse - at least until some better comes along then I'll be off, like a rat up a drain-pipe".
Loyalty, committment, desire and consistency come high on my list of qualifications for Toon players - it seems to me that this blerk falls short of the mark. I'm fed up with him, and the baggage he brings, and as far as I'm concerned he can bog off.

Gotta say, when Bobby had to push him back on the pitch to applaud us after our magnificent choral efforts at Anfield, I was certain he had played his last away game for us. I think he used to support Liverpool as a bairn, too, so maybe he was just offended at our abuse of the Scousers.

Having lived with some Peruvians for about 2 months i can guarantee this is cultural. Unlike us pampered softies, as a nation they have suffered a lot of relative hardships and they go out and get what they can for themselves. I don't doubt he has affection for the toon, what i do doubt is if he'll be here that long.

There was, in fairness, a quote last year in which he said he'd never play for another side in the PL because he wanted us to carry on loving him.

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2001

i think the real quote was he wanted the scantily clad lasses with big tits to carry on loving him in Dyers car whenever he fancied it. BTW could he leave the country to work with a driving conviction and a hickey passport and a pseudo flat top?
