What were some themes (besides death) that Poe wrote about? and what in his life influenced him to write about these themes?

Many of his works include the theme of insanity. Numerous characters were mentally insane or were driven crazy in some way or another. In the Tell Tale Heart, the man could not stand the old man's eye so he went crazy and had to kill. In The Black Cat the man couldn't bear the one eyed cat, it drove him mad, so he killed it. There are so many examples of how his main male characters were mad and couldn't think realistically.

I hope this helps a bit.
