Ken Dixon/ITK/Canel/Magic

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

First of all let me say that I am sorry that a man has died leaving a wife and children. Mr Dixon was a good friend to a lot of you. He seems to have been a responsible poster on this bbs. A number of makems on here and on RTG have been prepared to ignore certain aspects of his character and concentrate on the liveliness he created on message boards. I commend them for that.

However, there have been a number of postings that have either tried to excuse his behaviour on RTG or have tried to pretend that he was a constructive and welcome contributor to that message board. A large number of Mr Dixon's postings on RTG consisted of nothing but foul language. The majority of his messages were no more than vile abuse. His only aim appeared to be to make the message board unuseable for anyone other than him and people of a like mind. He may have occasionally made amusing postings but I for one never read any. RTG is a "lively" board but makems have as much right to discuss matters relating to Sunderland Football Club as you have to keep this board clean for mags to discuss Newcastle Football Club.

By all means mourn your friend and what you have lost. Don't fool youself and attempt to fool others into thinking Mt Dixon did not have a side of his character that was anything other than ugly. None of us are perfect. Death does not change that.

We know Ken better than you, so we know what he was capable of. Thank you for your comments.

Messrs Herts, Alien, Smoker and Roly came on gave their names to their views, you have now added to this.

You won't provoke any negative responses from people on here cos we're still missing our friend, who is to be laid to rest this Friday.

McB - I am not trying to provoke negative responses. I am pointing out that a number of your contibutors used the sad occasion of ITK's death to try to justify behaviour that could not be justified. Maybe the lesson is that we should all from time to time consider how we would like to be remembered.

I believe you that with Mr Dixon the good out-weighed the bad.

I can maybe accept your opinion as being well meant, but why bother expressing it at all let alone now ?

You can gain very little knowledge about a person's character from most of the garbage posted on the likes of this. Most of the time the kind of rubbish you mention is rarely more than tit for tat.

If it's taken seriously and seen as something other than childish name calling - like it'll change the course of your life or something - then I for one would be very concerned.

The point I'm trying to make is that your opinion may be valid, but not in this context. I think you'd have been better advised to wait until you could make your point face to face with the people who knew Ken as a friend - probably not a very likely scenario, so say nowt, rather than through a public medium which could maybe cause additional distress to people close to Ken.

In summary, insensitive and very badly timed.

By all means speak ill of the dead if you need to, but at least wait until those who might be able to speak on his/her behalf are again able to think clearly and not have opinions coloured by the imminence of the loss.
