Farcellino

IC NEwc are doing a couple of reports on Marca who has flown back to Spain with another injury that the club can't find on the scans. I don't know which one to believe with our injury record, if those medical staff have thought that Shearer, Cort, Dyer and Acuna were okay to carry on, no wonder Marcellino won't believe them!

Cant blame him.

Nufc.com reckon we should sell him to Everton given the record of our last 4 players to go there. ;-)

Astonishing that the four of them have only spent 28 minutes on the pitch together!

However, I'm sure you could pick more than four from our team who have not played more than 30 minutes together!

Frankly, I don't want to have to think about this tosser.
He is now 30, and the Ronnie reckons he has played only 125 games in total for all his professional Clubs. Assuming he has been playing for 10 years that is an average of 12.5 games per season - seems he may always have had this 'precious' streak!
BTW he has played in only 19 of the 95 games since he came here. Thank you Ruud, thanks very much!

'kinnell!! Fame at last. I see the nickname Farcelino has hit the Ronnie heedlines the neet. How low will Oliver stoop to pinch ideas?

clarky - In defence of Mr Gullit, he was exactly right with his comments just prior to signing the 'Man with the Iron Flask' for 6m...

"I will sign defenders who do not make simple mistakes."

Too right - he can't make a mistake if he doesn't play now can he...?

;-)

And we dont want managers who make big mistakes.

It's 8 seasons.

He played 14 games for Sporting Gijon from 1993-94 - 1994-95 (18%).

He played 87 out of 152 for Mallorca from 1995/96 - 1998/99 (57%).

He clearly saved his worst spell for us.

Beats the sh*t out of Steve Howey's appearance record, mind.

The obvious solution is to get Man City to buy him then he too will enjoy the miraculous recuperative powers of Maine Road.

Maybe we should just send our lot to train with Man City.

I don't think anyone has already posted this from Football365. It seems they've come up with a new formula for calculating what a waste of money a player is - the Marcelino rating.

WHO'S YOUR MARCELINO? 365 Names And Shames The Premiership's Leading Malingerers

365 Special by Sarah Winterburn

NEWCASTLE defender Marcelino has ended his second season as a Toon player just as he began it - injured. He is suffering from a groin problem that no medical tests have been able to identify, but as this is an outfield player who contrived to miss two months with a poorly finger, you can bet your life that it's serious.

Marcelino's amazing record of just 19 starts in two seasons has prompted local paper the Newcastle Evening Chronicle to ask if he is the Toon's most costly mistake ever. They have calculated that with his £6m fee and £1m-a-year wages, the Cowardly Lion lookalike has cost Newcastle a massive £400,000 for every one of his starts. Even without the wages, it weighs in at a hefty £300,000 for every game.

But surely every team has a Marcelino - a player who is picking up their sizeable wages despite being on the treatment table or in the reserve team month after month. If Marcelino is costing the Magpies over £300,000 a pop, how much is your Marcelino costing you? We look at some of the candidates:

D AVID GINOLA, Aston Villa Started: 15 games since signing for £3m from Tottenham last summer. Why? Not John Gregory's favourite player, to say the least. Cost Per Start: £200,000 Marcelino Rating: 6/10

MARIO STANIC, Chelsea Started: Nine games since signing from Parma for £5.6m last summer. Why? Variety of injuries. Cost Per Start: £620,000 Marcelino Rating: 8/10

MO KONJIC, Coventry Started: Only 14 games in well over two years following a £2m transfer from Monaco. Why? Found it hard to beat out the likes of Richard Shaw and Paul Williams for a first-team place. Was then hit by injury. Cost Per Start: £145,000 Marcelino Rating: 5/10

ALEX NYARKO, Everton Started: 21 games since signing from Lens in a £4.5m deal last summer. Why? Inevitable injuries. Not being any good. Going AWOL. Cost Per Start: £210,000 Marcelino Rating: 8/10

CHRISTIAN ZIEGE, Liverpool Started: 20 games since a protracted £5.5m move from Middlesbrough last summer. Why? Generally being useless. Cost Per Start: £275,000 Marcelino Rating: 9/10

MILTON NUNEZ, Sunderland Started: No games at all. Has made just two substitute appearances since his £1.6m move from PAOK Salonika in March 2000. Why? He claims it's racism, Peter Reid claims he's no good. Cost Per Start: Infinite - such are the laws of mathematics. Marcelino Rating: 7/10

TITI CAMARA, West Ham Started Six games since a £2.2m transfer from Liverpool in December 2000.W hy? Was unfit after being in Liverpool reserves for so long. Was then rubbish. Was then injured. Cost Per Start: £360,000 Marcelino Rating: 4/10

in the interests of truth I perhaps should admit that I was one of the people on here saying we should snap up camara when he left the scousers ...

I am the weakest link goodbye

Of those, I'd be happy to sign Ginola, Stanic and Ziege.
