Egg chasing down under .

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This is prolly the first thread ive started for a good six months and its got nowt to do with NUFC .. i still feel a bit out of touch doon under . For those of you who give a monkeys in the inter season break , ive managed to fill the void by getting some tickets for the first and third tests of the Lions v Wallabies tests her in OZ . The first game at Brisbane and the third and deciding game at Sydneys Olympic stadium . The tickets here are more like gold dust than FA cup final tickets for wor first game against the Arse 3 years back . Ive ended up paying 150 quid and 260 quid respectively for a bit of corporate hostility ( free drinks food n speeches etc ) . Do you think im mad ? I thought it was a small price to pay to see your country play in a far away place in such difficult circumstances ( neither game even went on sale to the public ) . A bit of a one off , which i personally think the British ( Ahem English ) Lions will annihilate the Southern Hemisphere basketball players on their own turf . It'll be nice just once to stick it to the Aussies and tell them they are NOT the best sporting nation in the world . I am fully prepared however for the backlash of the Ashes cricket series which the Aussies will win by a country mile . Any thoughts at all whilst the mighty NUFC take a breather ? What will you be watching Golf , Cricket , Rugby , Bowls or Curling ... this is the first summer in many that football has not dominated the annual calendar completely . I think Dawson and Wilkinson will be this summers heroes , who gets the vote for you ?

Aussie Pointers, (Sting since you have left these shores BB`s etiquette under the iron fist of MacBeth expects, nay demands from its patients, sorry patrons that they, to get their post onto the answer page must complete a AP heading as above), bliddy beauracracy.

£150 for the Gold Coast and no sales to the public, on a winner, mainly as it is a one of those occasions that you in future can boast to your children in the pub, "Lions -v- Wallabies", I was there, Jonty Wilkinson received a bad bad knock last time out and I hope this does not curtail his performances out there, it will be tight in all games. As for the cricket , we are on a roll at present my own feeling that other outfits such as the Australians are more on a slide and that`s what making us look better. Read a interesting article last week on their current hero Cathy Freeman, (only track medal?), since her win she has not trained, out of the country and she appears to be on a female equivalent of a Besty type bender, no drink just shopping and comfort eating. The PGA from Wentworth has just finished today (Mon), won by Andrew Oldcorn prev rated 137,I was so pleased for the guy as in the past he has suffered from ME, a good deal of attention was took away from him though by Nick Faldo who rediscovered his touch and came in a creditable 3rd , with his Fanny back in tow he performed much better, **(cue Mr Gavin Herron stage right). Strichen Curling Club `A` made the finals of the North East of Scotland last week, nee bowels news sorry , and Marcellino is still at the Toon , he was seen down the Bigg Market last weekend flogging Spanish Tourists to the region timesheres for Whitley Bay. See ya

Mornin` Sting! Not a cricket fan myself, but you obviously are, so good for you that you`ve secured tickets!(:o)

As for the Sears household - well, motor racing, bike racing etc. Golf, because for some reason it makes me feel as though I am on holiday. Tennis. Silly hats at Ascot are always fun to watch. England game next week, or whenever it is. Other than than, basically twiddling our thumbs `till the new season starts! (:o)

Keep us posted Sting.

It will be a closely fought test series and thankfully they are all live on Sky!

Hiya Sting, you old Geordie reprobate. I'm deed jealous about them Lions tickets - should be fantastic expereince, as Buff says something you can tell yer grandchildren about. Fancy the Lions to stuff 'em - well, beat 'em anyway. Looking forward to your match reports

As for the Ashes series, I think we'll give a good run for their money this time. Not confident enough to predict we'll take the Ashes, but we could.

Good on yer, Pom!

You'd fancy England to beat Asutralia at the moment, with the addition of some Celtic verve, and the late use of Billy Whizz as a sub will ensure success, maybe

England are the best TEAM in the Northern Hemisphere but we have to be careful to ensure that the Lion's team contains the best PLAYERS, and they are not necesserily in the England team. The duty of the coach then becomes moulding the best players into a team and that is what he will be judged on.

Telfer and McGeechan are past masters of course.
