Did anyone ever order a new top plate from Leica. As an exemple, if I have a "MINT" M3 with a dent in the Top plate. I send them the camera and they send it back with a new top plate with the same serial number.

Pretty sure Leica doesn't carry spare top plates for the M3. Probably all used up years ago. I read somewhere that they didn't have spare top plates for the older M6 anymore.

When they do replace a top plate, they engrave it with the same serial number, except that on the new top plate the serial number is followed by a asterisk* to show that it's a replacement.
